i just got a superlanboy

i am not sure abut how well it cools and stuff but i just turned it on for 2 seconds and the airflow felt weak. i was wondering if i should get replacement fans such as a yateloon or a nexus?

The SLB is a quiet setup. Some systems work fine with the low RPM fans, some do not. Mine is an example that works fine - P4 Northwood 2.53@3.33GHz. A friend of mine has a Prescott that overheats in his SLB. Celeron D 2.4@3.6GHz works but not in the SLB.

40C is indeed high for case temps.

Maybe you can run that exhaust fan off a regular PSU 4-pin molex power lead and see if it speeds up.

Of course you also have to make sure there is at least 5 inches of space behind your computer for the hot air coming out to escape and that it's not sitting in a poorly-ventilated cubbyhole... And it would also help to make sure the fan is blowing out, not in.

HTH.

ill try the 4pin molex thing but the fan is indeed out
. k it was originally into a 4 pin molex. and no it snot under a desk or cubbyhole

Hmm... Are you sure it's not connected to a "Fan-only" 4-pin molex? Some PSUs have those which are designed to undervolt fans and run them at slow speed.

Anyway, if your fan is connected to a regular 4-pin molex that you would otherwise use for an optical drive or HD, then yes it's running at its top designed speed. In that case (lol, pun intended), you might want to buy a faster-spinning exhaust fan... Though I think a better idea might be to dremel out that stupid stamped grill (which is too restrictive to airflow IMO).

HTH.

oook i just added 2x 80mm fans for the time being. i just added them to the back of the hd cages and lowered temps to 36.. maybe the front fan is to weak? well this is my temporary solution till i get better 120 mm fans. if that is what i need of course. if not then ill have to do some modding ot my case. i put my hand in the case to see where the most heat is commign front and i would have to say my northbridge

Maybe either your case is jam packed with HDs behind the front fan, or the HDs are sandwiched too closely together,

which will block most of the airflow from reaching the mobo in your case.

LOL theres only 1 hd? 🙁 i dunno i might remove this and put in some custom hd holder of some sort.. if i did so there would be A LOT more cold air flowing in from front and leaving at behind. the hd doesnt even block the holes that are there for airflow. its weird cus its shaped liek a box with holes every inch and the hd fits within that 1inch of non-holed space if u know wha ti mean. KKKKKK WHY TEMPS HIGH 🙁

In that case, yeah, you may want to replace both the intake and exhaust fans,

But you might be able to get better temps by just replacing your exhaust fan with a faster spinning one (this configuration won't increase your case noise level that much).

nowww where can i buy some real good fans? im not lookng for complete silence but a very good airflow / somewhat quiet fan.

Remove the hdd fixture, remove grillework, suspend hdd in front of the fan - problem solved.

You can get Yate Loon 120mm fans from here.
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/pctekonline/12x12cmcasefan.html

But, first improve the case by removing the obstacles in the way of the intake fan.

What is the CPU temperature? The motherboard temperature is not very indicative and varies from motherboard to motherboard.

To undervolt a fan, you can insert a resistor in series with it. But, that would reduce the RPM of the fan and you will be back to the original Super Lanboy fan, which is a low RPM fan.

The fans that came with your Super Lanboy have good airflow!
The problem is the plastic cover of the intake fan and the aluminum grid behind the fan and the hard drive cage behind it impede the air flow.

The Yate Loon I linked to has more air flow. But, it is noisier too.

Seriously, the set of modifications in the following pictures increased airflow within my case by a huge amount. I hope these pix help you visualize what I was talking about. Perhaps you can do something similar to achieve sonic success.

Shows HDD suspension, no grille, dust filter (hard to see)

Shows Yateloon, no rear grille.

Shows overall.

Sorry for blurriness, i had to squat in a wierd position to get those shots from under my desk.

nice pictures. i love how u did the harddrive thing haha and even though u ahve dust filter u can see dust on ur heatsink fan har harrrrrrr WELPS what did u use to cut all those aluminum stuff with?

wow.. i got rid of the front grill the hd cages and cut out other stuff and now my temps are 33 celc. wow thanks tiamat =) i hope u dont mind me stealing ur modding ideas har harRRRRrrr

Im glad you are seeing success! Don't worry about stealing anything! We all help each other out! I simply used diag cutters - it was real fast. Removing the HDD cage is a bit of a toughy. You have to remove the front bezel (6 screws), then you have to drill out 4 rivots and unscrew a couple screws. Its a bit of work.

It opens the case up a huge amount though as you can see in the pictures. Removing the cage is what brought my temperatures down a huge amount.

You see dust on my HS because my 5.25" bay cover isnt done yet. I am trying to make a vented 5.25" cover from aluminum housing and steel meshing. Its looking good, but i need to paint it black.
