Evening all.

I just bought a Mac IIci from a friend who was clearing his house out. (Peanuts really, I offered him £10 for it (about $13?)) Anyway, I was wondering if any of you have some cool ideas with what to do with it?

Its an excellent little machine, its still fully functional.

Motorola 68030 - 25mhz
12 Meg Ram (4 mb onboard)
Onboard video - but video expansion card installed.
Radius Rocket expansion card installed - upgrades the CPU to either a 40 mhz '030 or a 25mhz '040 (I havent found out which varient it is)

It works. Yeah great... but I dont use Macs a lot (Hey, Ive got a PC...)

Anyway I could do a lot with it, use it properly, turn it into a pimped out Mac (ala Virtual-Hideout casemod style), or perhaps fit PC components into the box? It would be really cool to walk into a LAN party with a little IIci (and the cases are small, but I'm sure a PC mobo would fit) and secretly be hiding a PC inside :)

What do people think? Any crazy ideas?

777php - hehe yeah I was expecting someone to say paperweight. YES! I had forgotten Prince of Persia... I think I have it on floppy somewhere from my LC II days (first computer!)

splice - Yeah me too, I'll keep you posted if thats the route I take :)

axelfox - Yeah I wish I could, theres loads to see in the US, I'd take the chance to pick up an Acura RSX at the same time (not available over here, and never will be with the 'Acura' badge :D)

bob970 - Yeah, if it DOES become a PC, then I'll leave it running the most vital of tasks, of course TA! :)

Thanks guys!

Yeahhh! I just found my old Mac stuff:

My load of floppies:

Crystal Quest - kickarse shooting game
Prince of Persia - 777php mentioned it, its a platformer where you have to get past loads of sword wielding guards (duel them) to rescue a princess :D
Kid Pix - Kids Photoshop, with lots of clipart stamps.

Lots more.

Well - it looks like a definate thing. I also have here an LC II, Quadra 700 (slightly better than the IIci, and now the IIci.
What I'll do is measure up the best components from the Quadra 700 and IIci, and put the best ones into one box, then use the better box for the PC project.

FYI - both the 700 and IIci cases are the same (physical size anyway), except that the floppy drive holes are differently set out, one is horizontal, and one is vertical.

Heres some info for you splice: IIci page at LowEndMac.com

Good idea BDawg. I notice that there is a version of Linux designed to work on 68020 and above machines too :D

...allbeit quite slowly i presume... ;)

an 040/33 (486DX/33) will do just fine speedwise for a firewall. I'm sure it's much more capable than most firewall processors. :)

Good point actually.

Although I have so many POS machines hanging around that I could have an army of firewalls :D:D

I'll give it some thought. At the moment its copying Prince of Persia from floppy to the HD, so I can have a play :)

Yes, Escape Velocity is one of my favorite all-time games.

In fact, IMHO every single ambrosia game rates at least great!

Migroo! I just did some searching; check out emulators.com. It sounds like they have a really good 680x0 emulator, which would allow us to play EV at full speed.

However, there's one little thing. Check your PMs.
