I mistook the SMBus connector for the USB connector. Didn't notice the burnt smell until I checked to find out why my PC wouldn't POST. Tried to boot-up the board again, even tried with a bare CPU-memory-video only setup, but didn't POST too. I guess it died the first time I hit the power.

Oh well, a good lesson for me to always double check before turning on the power.... :(

From the Asus manual:

<< ... The SMBus or System Management Bus is a specific implementation of an I2C bus, which is a multi-master bus, that is, multiple chips can be connected to the same bus and each one can act as a master by initiating data transfer. >>

The thing I dont understand is, how can the SMBus possibly look anything like a USB connector??

Both have 5 pins, and both have pin-2 disabled (or cut out, or disconnected, or whatever you call it). Kinda sucks... I always assumed that each connector can only fit if it is the right connector. :(

You mean the USB connector for the extra USB ports? I got it confused, I thought you meant USB ports.

Repeat after me - I will never buy an ASSUS again - I will never..... Just RMA the thing back saying it was defective - They should pay for all the recent headache boards they have been making lately.
