i first started read/posting on internet forums at a linux site called linuxnewbie.org back in the summer of 2000
the site was eventually bought by a big corp. and turned into justlinux.com
i haven't visited the site in a loooong time, but tonight when OT was down i browsed over to see if any of the old timers were about and read a notice that Mike Watts had passed away from cancer. it really has me choked up. i never met him in person, but back in the day we both posted a LOT on linuxnewbie.org and one time he joked about needing a hat after his hair fell out from chemo, so i picked up a KC Royals ballcap and sent it to him.
he spent many, many hours every week helping people with linux questions on that site, he really gave a lot of himself to help others even when he was in severe pain from the bone cancer
he didn't really have any family i guess, i am really sad he is gone
