I'm always changing which car is my destiny (buying a car sometime in the future) and its gone from a maxima to a prelude today. Same price range but the prelude handles like its on rails, has a bit more power (compared to weight), looks a lot nicer too! I realize its not as big but in terms of passengers I rarely have any in the back seat (and who cares anyway its not like they paid for it). Does anyone here have a late-model prelude? What do you think of it?

Nice. Is it a SH? I've heard even after upgrading the suspension on a regular Prelude it's still not as good as the SH.

they still make new preludes? anyway, its a rice car. i rather have the nice maxima, prelude is a economy sports car after all. kinda like what the escort zxsomething sport is suppose to be except a lot better.

Might wanna wait for a while.... Prelude should be gone after 2001, replaced by the new integra...

the prelude is an awesome car for the money, it does handle like its on rails, goes pretty damn good for a lil 4banger and can still take 4 people if necessary.

there is a reason that the current gen prelude was dubbed car and driver's best handling car under 30k, and when compared to price no object cars, still held its own (i mean when compared w/ a 911, m3, viper, ferarri and the likes, i'm pretty impressed that a car costing like 26k could stand on its own). go for it if you can find one man, you wont' be dissappointed!

Does anyone know how fast, say, a '98 would be in 0-60? Are all preludes the same speed in terms of engine power you just pay different prices for suspension and option packages?

noxipoo No car that does 0-60 in well under 7 seconds and handles at .92 G STOCK is a rice-car. Rice is "all show no go", the prelude definitely goes. "all show no go" would be a v6 mustang convertible with an auto haha those things hardly even move.

OMG just checked it's mileage 27mpg for the 5 speed on highway. That is atrocious.

I'm not sure how fast the latest gen. Preludes are but I am sure that the fastest Prelude made was a the 1995 VTEC model, 0-60 in 6.7 seconds.

skoorb, the 98 prelude would be the same specs as a 2000, all preludes now have the same engine and the only major differences has to do with suspension, the major difference being a base vs a type sh, which means the sh has the active torque transfer system, and having driven them both, i really could feel no difference, so i wouldn't worry about spending the extra cash

Hmm, I just read the motortrend review of the '97 and although the new ones are out/coming out this thing only got 6.9 0-60 and then 7.2 after 40,000 miles - slower than a maxima :( Plus they only got .83 and .86 respectively for it's G handling! Still handles better than a maxima but it is a tad pricier...I want somethin faaaaast, and I ain't buying a mustang.

Buy an Lexus IS300 then. It's around $30k. :D
I'd wait till next year when they get a manual trans. for it. It's 215HP, 218(lb-ft) of torque. You can even put in a turbocharger if you need more power..

Not if you want to keep your license. I don't remember the last time I raced somebody at the lights and we hit 90 mph + :) Anyway the 0-60 of the preludes is pretty well dead on with a maxima, maybe a tiny tiny bit slower as well...Still a sweet car I guess.

I have had my 2000 Prelude for a few weeks and like it alot. I did'nt find a cut off at 140 Mph, so I assume no governer. Not bad for 25 MPG and automatic :)

I *heart* my 'Lude. It's an older one ('90), but it's the SI with the 4WS and it's pretty sweet. Crazy acceleration for a 4cyl!!

4WS is awesome, hehe, you guys don't get that on your newfangled cars;)

I own a 99 and heres a few things.
-Parts cost more then other hondas.
-Clutch catches pretty quick and if you don't know manual this is a good car to learn on cuz its hard to stall but too drive it smooth is pretty damn hard.
-25 miles per gallon? Probably a lot less unles you shift real low
-cruises 3k at 65 mph 5th gear cruises 3k at 43mph 4th gear.
-Vtec kicks at 5.5
this is all stock.
Get the manual the sequential shifting is a joke.
You can finally find this info on the net but just trying to help you. Any 97+ owners out there lets hear how your car performs.

Alright! Another Honda lover... when I first started out with cars, the Prelude was my dream car, then I moved all over the place... must have liked almost every model in the line up since... currently drive an Infiniti QX4 though. But by next year I'll be back with a Honda: Acura TL (hopefully a Type S~!). And yeah, I give Nissan's mad respect too...
