For the first time in a long time. I ordered an indoor bike, put it together and hopped on.. OW! Had to put a pillow under my ass. Afterwards, all went smoothly. At first I was kinda peeved that it didn't offer much resistance, until I figured out the whole moving arm thingies pretty well, and found I could create resistance with my arms and work them out too.

I feel good! I need to do this in the morning though. I have to be up at 7:00 for work tomorrow and I'm not the least bit tired. :p I got some weights too. Nothing special, just small barbells, 40 pounds a piece. What are some good exercises and such to do with those? I hate going to the gym, all the gyms out here are basically huge meat markets, so I decided to do a DIY thing with the whole "get off your ass and stop being so lazy" approach, hehe.

I regret taking such a long time off of getting some good exercise.. I feel refreshed :D

Edit: I'm more interested in slimming down a bit and getting overall, more healthy, than bulking up and getting myself that six pack quite yet. I take Centrum, since a multivitamin really can't hurt. Is there anything else out there that helps? I hear and see a lot of ads but it's tough discerning the real, working stuff, from the crap that works as long as you take it, but the minute you quit, you're back where ya started.. or just plain ol' gimmicks.

There are no such things as small 40lb barbells. You mean dumbbells. I don't know what equipment you have but 40lb dumbbells don't give you a lot of options

after reading your thread thoroughly, congrats... it always feels great to get off your butt and start exercising and whatnot. start slow and grow acclimated to both the cardio and the weights. do some basic research on the web. www.t-mag.com is referenced here often but it's a pretty advanced site.

as for the dumbells, if you have a bench to go along with them, there's TONS of things you can do with them.

what are you looking to do overall? lose weight? get cut?

Just never hang any clothes on it, or lean anything against it...that will be the downfall of all your exercising.

Ahhhh crap, I would ride my bike for an hour, but I would have to move that shirt I threw on it........maybe tomorrow.

You can do quite a bit with dumbells...

Get an adjustable bench...you can do dumbell presses and flies for your chest (flat and incline).
Overhead presses for your shoulders...if you can adjust the dumbell weight, you can do lateral raises and upright rows for your shoulders as well.
Curls for your biceps.
Tricep extensions.
Dumbell rows for your back and lats.
Lunges for your legs.

Good luck!

The bike ran about $100. It's basic, but it does the job.

I didn't join a gym for a few reasons. I don't live reasonable close to one, I figure membership fees will end up being more expensive than doing it myself in the long run anyways, and the gyms in this area are basically big meat markets.
