Is there an online stream or should I get out my peg leg? I forgot all about this show and never checked it out.

Yeah, great show. Loved Octavian. Such a cunning little shit, right from the get go.

I left Rome and landed in Brussels
On a plane ride so bumpy that I almost cried
Clergymen in uniform and young girls pullin’ muscles
Everyone was there to greet me when I stepped inside
Newspapermen eating candy
Had to be held down by big police
Someday, everything is gonna be diff’rent
When I paint my masterpiece

Excellent series.

Also read that high production costs were what killed it.

Yeah, Rome was another HBO favorite of mine also. Only reason I have and have had HBO is their series like Deadwood, Carnivale, True Blood, Rome and the like.

Kevin McKidd who played Lucius Vorenus is now a Doctor on Grays Anatomy. Didnt care for him in Rome, dont like him in GA. Couldnt buy him as a mighty Roman warrior. Just a nitpick I know. Pullo was my favorite and a lot more believable.

Love the show, wasn't surprised it was cancelled though was disappointed.

From Wiki:
In 2002, HBO and the BBC agreed to co-produce a new series based on the events of the "Roman Revolution". Towards that end, the two networks committed a $100-110 million (£62.7 million) budget to the production of twelve 1-hour episodes, with HBO contributing $85 million, and the BBC contributing $15 million.[2] The BBC contributed £800,000 to every episode of Rome in its first season.[3]

Hard to imagine that was sustainable. Amazing it happened at all!

The $1 million per show is what became "unfeasible."
If it was only $1 million per episode, HBO could have pumped out 10 seasons.

The cost was $10 million per episode.

The whole point was that he wasn't a mighty warrior. He was just a professional squad leader serving his city state. Have you met many marines or soldiers? Some of them are quite reserved and don't necessarily burn with any "glow." You might not even think them soldiers or marines if it weren't for their haircuts. That's the point, he's identifiable because of his quiet service and devotion, not his battle rage.

btw, for those of you who are fans of Modern Warfare 2, Kevin McKidd (Lucius Vorenus) is the voice actor for Soap MacTavish :p

No, that can't be right. I remember reading 1 million at all sources I read about this.

It was about 100 million for the first season.

It was a good show, but I liked Spartacus: Blood and Sand better. More gratuitous sex and violence FTW. :)

I always wanted to watch that, even got it once from the library... didn't get a chance to start. Good inspirational thread, will get it again...

I read somewhere that it was cut shot coz of budget/low viewership issues

low viewership?! wow... there must have been something else really good on in that slot then. I thought it was very well done.

Can't wait to start The Wire. heard so many good things about it.

Its on Wiki, went back and read it again, it was not viewership, but the production was "notoriously expensive".

i could see that. the sets and costumes were elaborate. i for one am glad they dropped a ton of cake on two seasons though :awe:

you can certainly tell that they cut the 2nd season short.

i was hoping Marc Antony would have went out with a bang instead of a whimper... i liked his character... even though he wasn't really a "good guy", i really wanted to see him take out a bunch of Centurions and die that way instead of the suicide.
