Funny, it was more the "in time" that threw me off. Once I thought of "in time" in the sense of an event needing to happen before a particular time I was like "Oh, now it makes sense!"

Or it could mean that "in time" it will save effort. People use "in time" to mean "in enough time" as often as they use it to mean "in time for"

People use "in time" to mean "in enough time" as often as they use it to mean "in time for"

In fact, both mean essentially the same thing, as arriving "in time for" is merely a subset of arriving "in enough time."

And now, consider this timeless example of, errrrr, ersatz phrasal congruence:

"I ran out of time and so was unable to get there in time."

^^^ If only he'd stayed inside the timeline(s). ;)

What about a kitchen time?

''I'll cook up a solution with the knowledge I've accrued.
They say a Kitch-en time saves nine but I'm just saving two.
I've gathered the ingredients to make a time sorbet.
There's hardly room for seconds when the seconds melt away.
Watch as I work my gypsy magic - Eye of newt and cinnamin.
Watch as the matter turns to batter - Open the portal, jump in!''

The only reason that's confusing is because you can't rhyme "stitches" with "time".

"A stitch in time saves nine...stitches"

A stitch in time in a bottle ... wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy, grab my
glasses, I'm out the door, I'm gonna hit this city.
