I did not intend to call people "cretins." (Although it might apply in some cases). I meant to bring the ancient example of hedonists from Crete, which I believe was known for its raucous atmosphere.

If I am correct, "cretin" was of French origin and often used to insult Christians. So, I may be a cretin, but I am not a Cretan.

Of course, I don't even know if "Cretan" is a legitimate word, so that says something about my English skills.
