Why would you want to use Samsung's laggy keyboard? If you want a dedicated number row, try Kii keyboard.

iOS's keyboard is better, I have both iOS and Android and I use both every day. I can't get use to Android's keyboards because they're not as good, it's pretty damn simple.
Like I said, the same people mounting the same hopelessly silly argument over and over and over...

I'm used to Samsung keyboards. I loved using it on my GS3 and Note 2 when I had them last year. What lag are you talking about? I don't fill my phone with 100's of apps to make it so bogged down, and I had custom ROMs such as SCOTTSROMS' CleanROM so lag was never an issue. I just want the authentic Samsung keyboard if possible, and I didn't like Kii when I tried it last month.

Just a quick update. I've gotten used to the keyboard since I posted. Clearly I required a bit of patience to get used to the differences between the iOS keyboard and the Google keyboard I got from the play store. The only thing I need now is for it yo put in apostrophes when I'm too lazy to do so.

Reccomend me some sweet games for this phone!

stock google keyboard puts in apostrophes automatically, one of the things I love about it.

check out the game "hundreds" simple yet addicting

No one will spend $50 for a virtual keyboard, especially on Android where there are countless options. I've had an iPhone before and, maybe it was because of the small screen and my big hands, but the keyboard was not what as good as what everyone was raving about.

yup, can't stand my ip5 kb.
i wish i could get swiftkey for ios.

What don't you like about the iOS keyboard?(legitimate question)

In other news... This phone totally smokes my iPhone 5 in terms of battery life. I work in an area that has service issues and it was hard pressing to come home after 12 hours of work (14 hours off charge) and having anything more than 20-30% battery life. I came home today with 43% and that was with all my sync options running and the phone constantly trying to make a connection to a tower.

I had to make sure I turned off data on my iPhone so that it wouldn't keep trying to get LTE, otherwise I was guaranteed to have my battery life <20%.

I'm growing to like Android and it's OEMS more and more. My wife loves her galaxy s3, although I hate the plastic and amoled display... And then this HTC one is nearly making me ejaculate joy as I learn how to do more and more.

What are the benefits of rooting this one? I participated in jailbreaking and it literally liberated me from the walled garden... But what would I gain from rooting an already open and highly customizable OS?

Rooting is really for mainly if you want to modify the actual android system, or if you want to do Nandroid/Titanium Backup of ALL partitions. Or if you want to flash custom recovery (necessary for Nandroid backups)/roms. You can also do Adblocking on host levels. But as you said, it's just an expansion on an already customizable OS. You won't get that feeling of "liberation" as you did from jailbreaking iOS, because stock OS already does majority of what a jailbroken iOS does.

If you already like how it's running stock, there is no reason why you have to root.

coming from ios do you feel any lag when using android. I have tried s3 (havent tried the s4) and couldn't stand the lag. Neither my previous lumia nor current iphone 5 have this lag which seems inherent in android (even with 4/8 cores and 2gb ram)

This is a fundamental difference in how the OS handles the UI rendering/transitions. iOS and Windows Phone pauses almost everything in order to give UI rendering real-time priority when you are touching the screen. You can tell on iOS easily, if you have animated gif on a browser, and if you scroll, the animated gif pauses.

Where as Android, the system doesn't pause anything and leaves everything in the background running as is. It doesn't really prioritize UI rendering. That's why Android is hitting 2GB for memory.

Choose your poison I guess. I personally turn off any 'transition' effects in the Developer options, and I despised iOS for not allowing me to turn it off.

Perhaps there was a problem with that S3. I have no lag and I use active wallpaper.

Swift key all the way! There is nothing better. And if you miss emojii on the iPhone you can now download an app that the CyanogenMod guys now released for download separately, so you don't even have to jailbreak your phone. It integrates into whichever keyboard yo use and you can type iPhone emojii!

He's talking about compared to iOS, the S4, Nexus 4 & HTC One are all much faster than the S3. But compared to iOS/WP a lot of people still notice the lag. Android's just not as responsive, it still has a ways to go.

I've noticed lag particularly with the messages app. It takes a few seconds to see a message appear whether I write one or receive one.

Maybe there's a work around? I've learned to cope anyhow.

I upgraded from a Palm Pre to an HTC One. I like the keyboard and the default browser.

I like the default browser, too, it's faster and smoother than even some of the third party ones.

The default keyboard is okay, but I like SwiftKey more. I didn't think I would, but I saw so many recommendations that I gave it a shot. I have the Neon style enabled (it's purty :p). The predictions are very useful, as it completes phrases for me word by word sometimes since it learned my style.

Some users swear by the Swype kind of input, but I prefer regular tap keyboards. I equate the difference between the two types of input as print versus cursive, and people just have their different preferences.

re: keyboard... checkout Kii Keyboard... I've tried many different keyboards, and kii has been my favorite thus far (more so then swiftkey and swype)

The keyboard was the reason why I went from a Galaxy Nexus to an iPhone 5. I just couldn't type accurately on Android keyboards and the predictive typing is far superior on the iPhone.

I hate iTunes and the fact that I can't simply drag and drop files onto my phone though. I might move back to Android in the next round.
