I got GOTY edition to run on an old P4 2.8 laptop that I set up for my son. I was so impressed when he got his first head shot. I remember it well. I was standing in the kitchen and heard "HEADSHOT!", then "Daddy! Daddy! Look what I did!". He was only six at the time. I confirmed then what I suspected all along, that he is destined for greatness. 🙂

Way to go! You sound like an A#1 parent.

6 is much too young for these kind of games. But this is America so do as you will!

Oh my, he let his child play a video game. I doubt his child will grow up to be a serial killer. You don't see me going around eating mushrooms, working as a plumber, and saving princesses from weird turtles only to find out that the princess is in another castle, now do you?

nice analogy, mario bros is much different than UT.

Exactly. I wouldn't want my kid to grow thinking it's OK to blast people with shock combos.

How come you guys like it so much more than 2K4? I like both but 2K4 is great, Onslaught is awesome, I think the Deathmatch is great too.

I played UT almost exclusively for 4 years, there was a year in there when I also played CS but I never liked it as much as I did UT. I was not too fond of UT2003, the weapons did not seem to be very balanced. (mini was totally useless)

UT2004 is PERFECT. Yes, I will even go as far to say I like it better than UT99. The weapon balance is *very* nice and I love the additional movement allowed. When I play UT99 after playing UT2004 it feels like I'm restricted.

Please note I'm talking TDM, I don't dig that ONS/AS/etc. stuff. I was originally a CTF player in UT99 but converted to TDM and have been at it since. UT2004 CTF doesn't fly too well with me.

On that note, does any of you guys remember CPG-US? (Cannot Play Games)

I think UT2003's biggest downfalls were a) player scaling (WTF?!?!) and b) too much emphasis on fast-twitch play.

I know UT is all about fast-twitch gameplay, but you can take a good thing and fark it to the moon, which is what I think happened with UT2003. I really liked UT2004's ONS though. Player scaling still sucked, but gameplay was a blast.

I'm not sure what you mean by player scaling. But I think one of the main keys to UT99s success was the weapon balance and overall frantic pace. The pace of 2k3/4 feels much, much slower. Multi and mega kills would be pretty common for me in UT99 but few and far between in 2k4.

Example the mini-gun was one of the most deadly weapons in the first UT and my personal fav, in 2k3 it was basically useless. The also ruined the flack cannon making it more less a shotgun; sure spam was removed, but so was the fun. Taking the grenade option out of the rocket launcher was also a stupid move, as was removing the Enforcer for the lametastic assault rifle.

Or the 18 year old kid at one of the bell towers at college who starts a real life rampage when he's shouting, "daddy never loved me!"

The two towers team room was always a fav. Especially whne some n00b kept on screaming that we are cheating because his camper keeps getting whacked. Uhm, dude, you might want to move around just a bit and try not to go back to the same place every time you spawn?

IDK, 2k4 is much more balanced then 2k3 was but to me there is still something missing. UT99 was a blast to play; so many ridiculous over the top ways to kill and be killed, 2k4 feels very dry in comparison. I think it really comes down to 2k4s weapons being toned too much.

This is coming from DM, TDM and occasional CTF player.
