I just dropped a crap load of God Like bots

So I fired up UT 99 just to compare it 2k3/4 and it's pretty much just as I remember it, it hasn?t lost any of its charm. I really tried to get into 2k3 and 4 but they always seemed to pale compared to original.

I really hope they are able to re-capture the magic of the original with the next installment but I have my doubts 🙁.

Anyone else keep UT99 installed on their machines?

The furthest I got was "Multi", God Like bots bit back.

I could always pwn the God-like bots on UT99 but for whatever reason I'm not as good against them in 03 and 04....*shrug* oh well nothing like firing up AS-Frigate 🙂

Tho i like it in 04 when you get a Holy sh-h-h-!t kill streak going....its easy to do on some of the maps with vehicles

There ain't no GgGggggg-g-g-g-god like.. It's M-m-m-m-m--m-onster kill.

Yea in 2k3 I loved HOLY SH!T!, but nothing beats the original UT. AS-Frigate.. ahhh gotta love that one. I love going underwater and then turning that minigun on alternate fire as i ran straight for the first objective so we can start spawning in the boat...

heh, i just finished playing on a public dm server with only the deck16 map for about an hour. still love this game.

Broodwar and UT99 still are the least common denominators at the LANs I organise for my less comp-savvy, younger friends. 🙂

I got GOTY edition to run on an old P4 2.8 laptop that I set up for my son. I was so impressed when he got his first head shot. I remember it well. I was standing in the kitchen and heard "HEADSHOT!", then "Daddy! Daddy! Look what I did!". He was only six at the time. I confirmed then what I suspected all along, that he is destined for greatness. 🙂

Way to go! You sound like an A#1 parent.

6 is much too young for these kind of games. But this is America so do as you will!

Oh my, he let his child play a video game. I doubt his child will grow up to be a serial killer. You don't see me going around eating mushrooms, working as a plumber, and saving princesses from weird turtles only to find out that the princess is in another castle, now do you?

Dude, we hosted a UT99 tourney at our LAN last month. Only the staff seemed to know what "Unreal Tournament" in the advertising meant - all the guests materialized with UT2k3/4. One errant fileshare on an unknown machine fixed that pretty quick. UT99 > 2k3 + 2k4. It's unbeatable. They just got that magical balance that very few games ever manage to hit.

And then, I honestly don't know how, some of the mods made it even better.

U4E is the only mod ever made where one player can rack up 50 kills in less than a minute and it's still fun as hell for everyone involved.

UT99 is awesome, man if they could just capture it's awesomeness and just improve it's graphics, man that would be something. (The newer of the series just isn't as good)

nice analogy, mario bros is much different than UT.

I think UT2003's biggest downfalls were a) player scaling (WTF?!?!) and b) too much emphasis on fast-twitch play.

I know UT is all about fast-twitch gameplay, but you can take a good thing and fark it to the moon, which is what I think happened with UT2003. I really liked UT2004's ONS though. Player scaling still sucked, but gameplay was a blast.
