I just downloaded Windows .NET RC1...any advice and opinions?

I just downloaded the beta about 5 minutes ago and I'm currently burning it to a CD. Does it offer much over XP or is it mostly new networking features? What should I expect as far as interface, bugs, and compatibility? Any advice on installing it?

Windows .NET is NOT meant to replace Windows XP in any way. If you plan on using it as your OS for everyday tasks you should know there are compatibility issues with lots of desktop software packages. This is a server operating system not a desktop OS. It's also much more than XP with more networking features. Active Directory is significatly enhanced IIS 6 is a complete rewrite. I also like that most services that aren't needed are turned off by default.

If you didn't know that, I find it hard to believe your part of the beta... Where did you get the iso?

Anyone can sign up at Microsoft's site. Simple form, they email you the download instructions a few days later.

Oops, your right, the customer preview program is up now (sorry Valinos). Still amazed that someone could signup and download it and not know it's a server operating system 🙂

Kinda sends a chill down your spine, doesn't it. All those .NET servers out there, being run by people who think its the next version of XP.
