For the price the athlons XP are great but they do not hold a candle agains the Athlon 64, at least for gaming. I play mostly UT2k3 and I used to play at 1600*1200 and it was really smoth. Now I had to go all the way down to 1024*768 and still it does not feel half as smooth as it used to be with the Ahtlon 64. I would try to oc the athlon a little bit more but I already ordered another 3200 and motherboard and I am going back to Athlon 64. Yes the XPs are great for the price but if you can afford an Athlon 64 go for it it is a lot better than the xp at least for gaming
Wait a minute, are you sure about that?
You A64 @ 1600 x 1200 was faster than your XP @ 1024 x 768? Same video card? It seems strange because I would think you'd be video limited @ 1600x1200. And, if you were CPU limited @ that res, then dropping down to 1024 x 768 won't help much anyway, since dropping the res will only affect your graphics card and not the CPU.
Maybe you could try turning off some of the details in the game that use CPU calcs. Not sure what these would be for UT, buy maybe there are sound optimizations you can try or reducing polygon complexity or something like that.
Anyway, too bad you are having probs, and maybe you can figure out a way to work around them.
Just curious, how come you got rid of the A64?
