Well, I just had an Ahtlon 64 combo and I sold it and downgraded to an XP2400 runing at 2.4 gigs and for games it is horrible. The games now feel sooo sloooow :( For the price the athlons XP are great but they do not hold a candle agains the Athlon 64, at least for gaming. I play mostly UT2k3 and I used to play at 1600*1200 and it was really smoth. Now I had to go all the way down to 1024*768 and still it does not feel half as smooth as it used to be with the Ahtlon 64. I would try to oc the athlon a little bit more but I already ordered another 3200 and motherboard and I am going back to Athlon 64. Yes the XPs are great for the price but if you can afford an Athlon 64 go for it it is a lot better than the xp at least for gaming :)

I don't mean to sound rude but...

DUH!! :D

The on-die memory controller does wonders for the A64. If the AXP had it, it would rock all the more too. :)

Wait a minute, are you sure about that?

You A64 @ 1600 x 1200 was faster than your XP @ 1024 x 768? Same video card? It seems strange because I would think you'd be video limited @ 1600x1200. And, if you were CPU limited @ that res, then dropping down to 1024 x 768 won't help much anyway, since dropping the res will only affect your graphics card and not the CPU.

Maybe you could try turning off some of the details in the game that use CPU calcs. Not sure what these would be for UT, buy maybe there are sound optimizations you can try or reducing polygon complexity or something like that.

Anyway, too bad you are having probs, and maybe you can figure out a way to work around them.

Just curious, how come you got rid of the A64?

-D'oh!

Yes, even at 1024*768 and at 16 bit instead of 32 it doesnot feel as smooth as the Athlon 64 was. I just wanted to try the mobiles that everyone is recomending sooo much. Specially for gaming and having tried both I could not recomend one over an Athlon 64. Hopefully by the end of the week I will have my new Athlon 64 and mobo again. I wanted to try the AMD mobiles that everyone is raving so much about :). They are great chips for the money though. My upgrade pat has gone this way. I had an AMD XP 2500 oc to 2.3 gigs, then I upgraded to P4 2.6 at 3.3 gigs and the last upgrade was to the athlon 64 3200 at 2.4 gigs. Everytime I upgraded I never really felt the diference. But now I can really really tell the diference. at 1600*1200 I used to get 129 flybye and 95 on the deathmatch. Now I am getting 115 on flyby and 30 on deathmatch :( Well I already have this setup sold locally so I just wanted to give the mobiles a try and I did. However, I would recomend the Athlon 64 for the people that can afford them and want to go P4 instead :) I sold my old rig because I wanted to try the DTR ones :) I just got one too. It is a 2800. I will keep the one that oc the best. either the 3200 or the dtr 2800.

Heh, I just upgraded from a XP2100 @ 2.00GHz to a Barton 2500 @ 2.20GHz. Just booted up a few minutes ago and went straight for 11 x 200 and got it at stock voltage.:beer:

B/t the extra 200MHz and the extra 256Kb of cache, it feel MUCH snappier. I"m pleased as punch. Why did you sell your A64 rig?

I wanted to try a dtr one to see if they oc better. I have a dtr 2800 and a regular 3200 on order. Also, I wanted to go back to XPs and see if they were as fast as I remembered. Funny thing is that wnet I upgraded I could swear that there was no noticable improvement. Now I should feel a lot of improvement again :)

I went from a Barton@2.43ghz to a A64@2.4ghz and there is definitely a difference there in games. Halo was a little choppy in big fights with the Barton, the A64 made it smooth as silk with all other hardware and settings identical@the time. Of course@2.9ghz a Barton is going to be sweet but that's a 1337 cooling system too ;)

Anywho, the Mobile 2400+ I had was a DUD! 2.2ghz on 1.75v to run P95TT stable and no voltage made 2.3ghz stable :| I've had 2 t-bred B's and a Barton that are all pre week 30 '03 and all would/will do 2.4ghz@1.85v stable so I'm bent. All this mobile talk and the one I get is a reject :p My next purchase will be the CG B2 35W A64 mobile

Sweet, let me know how it goes with the 35W A64 mobile. I have a DTR 1.4 2800 and I Want to see how they oc. Also, went I ugraded I did not feel the difference at all, but now that I went back I can really tell which one is a lot faster :)
