What do you mean expired? As in past the date listed on the check that banks are willing to cash checks?

You can write VOID across the center of the check with a huge permanent marker and a bank can still legally cash the check.

Probably because it has a "This Check Is Void After xx/xx/xxxx" , or a "Void After x Months Past Date of Issue" on it. This is common with most commercial checks...have you never seen this or something???
