I just cleaned up my room and rearranged my desktop

Wow... didn't realize how much dust my PC's cables can collect. There's a huge morass of cables down behind the desk, and boy can they really trap dust. Yuck! :disgust:

The rearrangement process was such a pain too, with so many dependencies. Stuff like *this* has to be here because the cable is too short, but because of this *that* has to be over there which might cause problems with *that other one*, etc. I'm relieved that I got it all done right now, also I decided to put my whole casing on the desk (instead of the floor) where it's easier for me to open up the casing and do stuff.

Anyway, also wanted some opinions. I just rearranged my desk so that my monitor is further back (about 31" away from my eyes), so that I can fit my racing wheel and still have my keyboard in front of me (previously I had to move the keyboard aside). So I was wondering if 31" is too far... I can still read stuff without squinting but I kinda feel very weird looking at the screen right now... could it be just because I'm not used to the new distance? Or do I need to do something about it?

Cheers,
:)atwl

EDIT: Darned typos, hate it when I put 'a' and 'u' in reverse in "because"! :|

Another EDIT: BTW The 31" is when I'm just lazing back on my chair and relaxing and surfing the net, when I'm doing serious work I'm leaning forward another 10" or so, shortening the distance to about 21".

If you're not squinting or straining your eyes at all, then it should be fine, IMO. If you notice that you're squinting or getting headaches, by all means, move your monitor up! :)

Yeah, dust is a bitch.

Hmm... I've got a headache right now but I'm not sure if it was because of my lack of sleep this whole week....

my 15" LCD monitor (DVI connected) is about 15" - 16" away from my eyes due to the crappy-ass lowness of my dorm desk's shelf.

You're probably just not used to the new distance yet. As long as you're not too close to it (which 31" isn't) and you can still see the screen without any trouble, you'll be fine, as far as I know. Just need to get used to it. I'm still getting used to my desk here at school. It sits higher than my desk at home does and I'm at least 6" closer to the monitor.
