i'm looking for a COOL and quiet case atx 2.0 or no power supply. i don't really need those fugly leds that are on every other case. the best case i found is the slk 3000 b and i'll just put in my own power supply....but i can't find ONE other case like it.
here are some specs:
athlon 64 3000 venice
x800xl
seagate barracuda 80gb ncq
pioneer dvd burner
zalman 7000 cpu fan
chaintech vnf4
logitech surround sound
2x 512 corsair memory

does a 430 watt power supply seem like enough?

yea i was going to get the truepower from antec...but the only thing is that its almost twice the cost of my case.
i just want to make sure that this is the right one (i'm going to look at the case you recommened 🙂 ). i want to know all the little flaws that it has. does anybody have any experience with it?

i just wish that i could plug in headphones in the antec 🙁

What Truepower are you looking at that is twice the cost of your case?

Here is a Truepower 2.0 380w (perfect for your system) for $77 shipped -

...and the Antec SLK3000B you like is $47 + ~$20 shipped -

i dont think 380 will be enough. i was going to get like a 480 because i might want a new graphics card or something...is 380 enough for what i'm using now?
i wish i could get a sonata but thats not atx 2.0 (and it has a 380 watt power supply 😉)

380w from the Truepower 2.0 is PLENTY. A low-end Venice does not require a lot of power, and neither does the x800 XL. In fact, if you download the manual for the x850 series you will see that ATI's requirements are 350w or greater for PCIe and 300w or greater for AGP.

If you look at the actual amperages on each rail, the Truepower has more output than most 430 and 480 watt units, such as the popular Seasonic S12 430w that goes for $99+.

If you want a Sonata with 2.0 just wait for the Sonata II. It should be out pretty soon.

I just posted this in another thread:
Case w/o power supply for $36 plus shipping:
Compucase LX-6A19 beige
Compucase LX-6A19 black/silver

$53.50 plus shipping for a good power supply:
ATHENA POWER AP-P4ATX50F12 ATX12V 500W Power Supply

This combo will probably cost you a bit over $100, but I don't think anyone would argue that quality is lacking in either component. The Compucase is legendary for having good airflow and being built like a tank. The Athena Power unit has the 24 pin ATX power connector your motherboard choice needs plus puts out some serious power.
+3.3V@35A, +5V@61A, +12V@28A
It is a "quiet" design and has a sexy chrome/titanium finish.
These Compucases are the same chassis as the Antec SLK-3700AMB and are really high quality. They look sharp, not boring but also not flashy. They are a bargain at $36 plus shipping from a very reputable reseller.

i'm going to use an antec power supply. even if the quality is ok (like u said) thats probably really loud and really noisy...which is exactly what i dont want.
