It was $1700 after shipping. The lady that worked for gateway that I ordered it through gave me a $100 discount. I'm gonna add (I already have this stuff) 128mb more ram (gateway wanted 100 bucks for the upgrade), a 12x10x32x cdrw, and a zip drive :)

I'm soo excited. I wanted to build my own, but I'm too lazy, and feel like taking the time to do it. It'll be here next week! :p

Nice system, any reason why you didn't choose Dell (their biggest downfall is not offering AMD)?

Damn. For $1700? Geez. If I had that kind of cash laying around..... (nudie bar anyone??) j/k

Nice computer. A little overprices I think but not bad. Have fun with it! But you have to change your OS once you get it.

Congrats on your new system. Building a system isn't for everyone, I wish I would have told my friend to buy his new computer instead of helping him build it....

Thanks for your comments.

Yea, I didn't want dell because they didn't offer AMD. I like gateway a lot. They were the only company my parents bought from when I was younger, and their service was always good.

Congrats on your new system!

I understand the only program you run is Quicken. It's going to run really fast now!

j/k;)

I was thinking about changing the OS, since I had that on my old machine. I'm gonna try it out to see if I like it. If I don't, I'll reformat then add Win2k. When XP comes out, I'm gonna upgrade to that (since i get a free upgrade coupon ;) ).

why do you want a zip drive? if you are buying a 12x cdrw

i can't believe gateway charges $100 for 128mb RAM. I can even get 128MB for $35 here in Canada, lol

You do have a point, but because I have one that's just laying around, I might as well put it in ;)

I know, 128mb for 100bucks! I couldn't believe it. I would have downgraded to 64 if I could, and added my own ram.

You should have requested to have no ram, and buy 256 or 512MB from another store, for the same price or maybe a tad more. :)

Why don't you buy your own 128MB stick and install it? It?s painlessly easy (unless it voids your warranty if you open the case).

I've talked to Gateway people before about warranty. They don't void your warranty for most things, including adding ram. I even posed the question of what if I put a blow hole in the thing. He said that if it didn't interfere with the "electronics" of the thing, it shouldn't be a problem.

uh...pretty sure Downfall.

You're right, it's a huge downfall that Dell doesn't offer AMD systems but this issue has repeatedly been beaten into the ground.

So I guess it wouldn't hurt beating it some more? :)

Yeah, but consider this:

He got a 19" Diamondtron. You have a 17' Viewsonic listed

He has a digital camera listed. You have none.

He has a printer listed. You have none.

He has Works with Encarta listed. You don't.

He has a warranty. You don't.

All in all, it wadn't that bad of a deal. :) To add what he has, you'd have to add at least $500 to your system there.
