I just received my Athlon 1.2 ghz 266fbs processor and an Iwill KK266-R motherboard today.

Athlon 1.2 266mhz fbs

A1200AMS3C
AXIA0114VPAW
95487650554
1999 AMD

Iwill KK266-R ver 1.2

What can I expect from the Athlon AXIA "9" retail? It came with a hsf w/ a pull tab that has some type of thermal conductive compound on it. Should I "clean off" the compound and put something on it like AS2? Also, the kk266-r looks to be an older version. Would it be better to update the bios or is there any problems with the current bios already installed? Thanks

rgf :)

if you purchased a retail AMD cpu and u want to overclock, i wouldnt use the retail heat sink fan, i would invest in a better one.

in terms of how high your CPU will overclock, i think it all depends, i hear some people get really high but others can't

i purchased a 1.0 ghz 266fsb from newegg, i think week 14, and was able to hit 1.4 ghz with some stability with temps around 44 C.

it all depends, good luck

Tsk tsk, should've gone OEM...i think you got an AXIA C...i heard they don't do to well when i last conversed with compuwiz. He said something like 1.4 or 1.45 was the avg that they were hitting...still good to me...200 mhz OC. Anyways, if you're gonna OC, like ucvb6 stated, that retail HSf ain't gonna cut it...shop around for a good HSF.
