How do the ety's sound in comparision to other things you have heard, are they comfortable, and do they have a closed or open sound?[/quote]
Well, so far, i have heard the Etys up against:
Grado sr60 - owned
Grado sr325 - own
Sony v6
Sony v7dj
Sony f-1
Koss-ksc35 -own
Senn mx-500 -owned
I haven't heard many phones, but i do still love them dearly. First of all, comfort depends on the person. Some people don't like sticking objects into their ears, it's as simple as that. With Etys, it's no different, besides the fact that most haven't used canalphones before. I usually use earplugs to read, so Etys weren't much different. And being sealed phones, they would have a "closed sound." The only cans that i've heard with contrasting "open sound" would be the Grados-which should be the epitome of "open sound."
Right now, i only have three headphones, my Grado sr325s, the Etys, and the Koss ksc35 (which i lent to my bro for the gym). The only reason why i still have both the Grados and the Etys is because their sound is so different. If you read up on the Grado sr325, many tout it as the best set of cans for rock, and techno. They're right

You just can't beat the impact and bass slam of the 325s. But, many people also label them as "bright, fatiguing," but i like the bright characteristics, eg cymbal taps, etc. The only problem is that they're open, so sound-leakage, and there's a whole lot of it!
And the Etys. Neutral as you'll ever get. Even though these phones don't have the bass slam of the 325s, they still hold their own amongst the high-end stuff like the 325s and hd600 (not so sure about rs1 and the higher models of other brands though). Once you give the Etys a listen, some of the better earbuds like the Sennheiser mx500s, sound like complete crap. Etys are like miniature, high-end phones. Everything else is trash, well, maybe besides the Koss-ksc35s, they're awesome at their price, but they're not earbuds

Just to let you know though, some people have sold their hd600s to keep their Etys.
