so is there any way i can like upgrade the firmware in the 411 ?
via usb?

the difference is that the 411 is mpeg2 and the ViP211 is mpeg4

there must be a way to upgrade!

any card that goes in to the reciever (like g4 card for the powermac g3)

help!!!
 
i just got the new MPEG4 receiver from DISH. I was quite concerned when I got it as the box said it was a 411 - indeed though it is the new one with MPEG4 encoding.

are you sure this isn't what happened to you?

Also, at least for me, the upgrade fee is $99.99 and $299.99 for the HD DVR model.
 
The 411 is MPEG-4 compatible. The 211 is very similar, but is part of the ViP series - the main difference is the 211 has a ethernet port. What they intend to use it for, hasn't been announced yet, as far as I know.

That said, if you don't get the box you want, call Dish and let them know.
