I know this whole thing sounds really stupid, but today at work I got a small X-Mas bonus, so I decided to go blow the money. :) I have been eying the Dreamcast for awhile, but I also really need a video card for my computer. So, I was at Fry's checking out video cards at lunch, and looked at the Dreamcast as well, next thing you know, I'm in line and paying for the Dreamcast!!! It was like the damn thing jumped off the shelf and forced me to the checkout!

Now I'm regretting it even though I haven't even taken the DC out of the box. I'm wondering if I really needed a DC because I play a lot of computer games, so the DC will take away from that. I'm actually considering taking the DC back and buying a new GeForce MX or a Radeon for my computer. Maybe I just have post-purchase remorse or something. So, are there any Dreamcast owners who are also big computer game players who know what I'm talking about? Do you find you don't buy or play as many computer games because of the DC? Should I take this baby back? I'm so confused.

gaming on dc is a lot more interesting than playing fps and real time strategy games on pc. unless you play the sims. then you don't need a new video card anyway.

I actually both the DC and lots of PC games.

If you are a fan of FPS, kick the DC. Q3 is hard to play over the network with a dial up connection. Ick.

On the other hand, if you are a big fan of fighting games like Soul Calibur or Ultimate Fighting Championship (both, EXCELLENT games), then I would recommend keeping it and investing in some VMUs and maybe some controller cable extenders.

Also, if you are into RPGs, Skies of Arcadia, Grandia 2 and (not really an RPG) Shenmue would be excellent choices as well. And, in the near future (hopefully), Phantasy Star Online will be coming out - a reason alone to own the Dreamcast.

As long as you know the strenghts and weaknesses of each system and like a variety of games, they can both fit into your gaming scheme nicely.

If to the console side you go... forever in its grip shall you be!

Seriously, I once was about to upgrade my video card and decided to get a console instead...

Now my PC hasn't played a game in over 6 months, and I own every console on the market! It is so adicting! The games look good... they're on a huge TV!... and they ALWAYS work! No patching!....

Argh!

Thanks guys, I'm starting to feel a bit better about my purchase. Maybe I'll feel a lot better after I get home and rent a few games to try out.

I'm a fan of all kinds of games. For example, right now I'm playing No One Lives Forever, Monkey Island 4, and Need For Speed 5. One of the reasons I bought the DC was for fighting games. I like fighting games and they just don't release the damn things for the PC. Also, NBA2K1 looks awesome, and I want to get a season going with the Lakers. Plus that game Shenmue looks really cool.

What's that going to be about, that sounds like it might be pretty cool. I've been out of consoles for a long time (last system was a Genisis), so I don't know what games are out there.

I like fighting games too. Thats the best part of consoles IMO. I'd get Dead or Alive 2 if I were you. Nice game with some nice chicks. ;)

I think Namco should release TTT for all platforms. It looks amazing in PS2.

Maybe you guys can give me some advise here. I just bought Shenmue for my 14 year old son. No problem there, he'll love it. But I figured I better get a DC game for my 9 year old too. I grabbed Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. Everybody at the store said it was great.

When I got home, my wife told me I had already copied that for the PSX. Duh! Is the DC version far better than the PSX version, or should I swap it for something else? It's $50.00 at Sears, so it would be wise to get the most out of that money. Is there a lower price for it on the web? Sears will match it. If you think I should swap it, what should I replace it with? He does like that type of game. He also likes Poke'mon and the "kart" racing stuff.

TIA,
Ornery

Good call ForeverSilky, just grabbed Shenmue for $39.95 and Looney Tunes: Space Race for $24.44 at Sears. Their price match policy is fantastic! I also returned the first Shenmue to EB. Everybody is open till 11:00PM now, and there aren't too many people there. I love it!

Thanks For The Tip!

PS

Ornery, thank you so much for that link! :D I was going to buy DC and some accessories for myself from EBworld and use the 20% off passport thing, but just my luck, MS ended that deal. :( Now I can go to a local sears and buy everything for about as much (well, a touch more, but not much).

Thanks! :D

I download...errr...imported (;)) Phantasy Star Online and it's pretty good. Here are my recommendations:

Fighting:

Soul Calibur
Virtua Fighter
UFC (but it's kind of thin, not much substance)

Racing (This is a good one, the DC is a racing fan's dream):

Crazy Taxi...not really racing, but a fun arcade style game
Metropolis Street Racer
Test Drive V-Rally <-- excellent
San Fransisco Rush: 2049 <-- really arcade-ish

Sky's of Arcadia is supposed to be really good and extremely addictive.

And if you're dissapointed that you didn't get a PS2... don't be, cause the dreamcast ownz the PS2 at the moment.

I can't wait for the LAN adapter either. Konichiwa, how far are you in PSO? I've finished all the missions in the guild, and I think I need to find some rico red person. What character did you choose?

I'm not sure if there will be any differences in the US version of PSO. Maybe the import won't work with US servers but that's all I can think of. I'm off to play some more PSO!
