I just bought ATI 8500 LE for $139 for refurbished (I think it just means returned model) from newegg.

questions:

1. What is the difference between 8500 and 8500 LE?
2. Is $139 Pretty good price (free shipping and no tax)

3. Did I do good?

I think the LE model is like MX for Geforce2. It has slower processor. But still it has all the functions just like the 8500 model.

Yeah, and I think XLE is the step-up model :)

i saw that at newegg's website a few times. the one thing i noticed to be different was the ram speed. i think the le was clocked at 230mhz and the vanilla 8500 was clocked at 240mhz?

Could it be like the Radeon LE? See if you can find a Radeon tweak program to bump up that clock speed. Be careful though about zapping your card...

Download powerstrip and it willl tell you what its clocked at. The LE is the OEM version of the card clocked at 250/250 MHz and from reviews (Tom's Hardware), the differences in frame rate are negligible compared to the retail board. With powerstrip you may be able to clock it to the same speed as the retail board at 275/275 MHz. Good find.
