I just bought a 6 foot HDMI cable from China for 99 cents, how is this possible

It must suck to depend on inferior HDMI cables from China.

The very least brand of HDMI cable I will ever use is Monster Cable.

This is an example of trolling, for any non-technical people visiting the forums. -DrPizza

I ordered one two days off of ebay for $2.70, free shipping off ebay. I had $3 eBay bucks certificate to use, was a perfect way to spend the money.

Global overproduction? Excess stock are just dumped at whatever price it would take to clear.

But they'd have to be taking a hit just shipping the thing, makes no sense. They should just sell it locally. Or maybe just throw them away/donate them.

Marketplace Money had a brief snippet on Chinese cables this month. I tried searching to link it and didn't find it right away. They basically said, that yes, they cost pennies to make and there is profit in selling them at $0.99 including shipping.

I wonder how much shipping actually costs, i thought international shipping is extremely expensive.

USPS(or foreign equivalents) are pretty cheap. That's still a razor thin margin though. My energy to stick the thing in an envelope, and mark it is worth more to me than the money they're getting.

I've bought a few things off ebay with the same kind of deal, dirt cheap and drop-shipped from Hong Kong. In every case the shipping HAD to be more than I paid for the item. Yet they were not auctions that I somehow stole the bid cheaply, they were all buy it now deals.

If it costs $2 to ship and you're selling it for $1 you do not make it up in volume.

If you noted that shipping is "only to the USA". Seller probably has the item in bulk somewhere in the US (west coast) to save on shipping 1 item at a time.

Yeah, some of these sellers are high volume, with multiple storefronts and ship to a central distribution center in the U.S. The ones that literally ship by the boatload pay very little to ship to the states, and then save on shipping here because of the volume shipping.

like dullard suggested, these sellers are still turning a small profit. Postal (mail) rates from China are cheap and the cost basis of the products (i.e. cables or adapters) are mere pennies.

A lot of those cheap cables really, really suck. Seriously, just spend $3.50 for the ones at Monoprice, or "splurge" and spend $7.50 for the 24 AWG ones.

I'm sorry, but you don't do troll disdain like TheFlyingPig does :colbert:

Well, when even 1 point gets you auto-banned for a week, one starts to lose his edge when trying to find that perfect balance between pissing a n00b off, and pissing Doc Pizza or Perknose off.

A simple infraction and I am fudged big time.

The worst part is, my current points here will take longer to expire than points for driving in NYC.

What pleasure do you gain in pissing off n00bs? Is it because you were pissed off as a n00b? Were you born into an unwelcoming forum, and repeatedly pissed off in your very first posts? Were you kidnapped and brought into a dark chatroom by a moderator you thought you could trust, where people repeatedly pissed you off all day? Did you get started by pissing off spambots, JulesMaximus, and other small forum animals that were easier to piss off on? How many n00bs have you pissed off, and when will it end?

Now you're just being mean. He's dug himself a hole so deep he can't even defend himself.
