I just benchpressed for the first time today

I started with 100 lbs and my roomie had me do as much as I could until I couldn't lift it, and then he'd take 10 lbs off and I'd do it again until the bare bar. I did around 15 of each and like 25 at 20 and 10 lbs and 45 with just the bar and then I couldn't even lift the bar itself.
I'm gonna be in pain tomorrow. It's really a lot more than I should have done for my first time.
I'm 5'7 and 120 lbs now, but hopefully I'll gain a little weight now that we have a bench and weights at home. I keep in relatively good shape, but I never had any weights, so I did push-ups and chin-ups and stuff like that.

be prepared to be unable to lift your arms higher than your shoulders tomorrow 😀

congrats. hope you keep it up.

just promise to stop eating children, ok?

HAHAHAHHAHAH... you chose the right place to say "relatively" 😀

hehe true. I'm in no way a fitness buff. I used to rock climb twice a week, but I haven't done that in a year. When I say I'm in relatively good shape, I mean I exercise regularly whichever way I can without equipment, I walk rather than driving or taking a bus, I eat pretty well, etc. I'm fit for someone who does what I do (read: nothing)
I could be in much better shape, which I hope to become over the coming months. And I do know that I pushed myself too hard today, but that was just once. Right now I feel fine, but when I wake up tomorrow, I'm not gonna feel as good as I do now.

Don't let your friend talk your ego into doing more weight than you want to/should. Trust yourself.

Can you bench your own weight? That's a good starting point.

Not yet. I had 120 on the bar at first, but I knew if I were to lift it it'd just topple over and I'd get hurt. I lifted it about an inch and put it down. Then I took 20 lbs off it.

Man you're tiny.... like a 14 year old girl or something.

I was never big and never will be. I'm a beta male dammit, and sort of proud...
