So I checked our fridge and discovered that we had leftover mexican food from Wednesday of last week. It smelled okay and looked okay (if a little dry), so I popped it into the fridge and nuked it. Upon tasting the orange mexican-style rice, I noticed it was a little bit sour, but wasn't sure if this was part of the flavor. I decided it wasn't too bad, and could've been the seasoning (lime or lemon or something) so I kept eating. Then curiosity got the best of me and I decided to search "rice going bad". I found a couple references to rice going sour = bad, but one person said something like "there's some nasty food poisoning associated with bad rice!". I couldn't find anything else to corroborate that, but I'm a little bit worried. Am I going to die?

A little bacteria is good for you, keeps the immune system on its toes.

I'am pretty sure your ancestors ate a lot worse, and your still here today.

If it's bacteria, them spore-forming bastards may have had a chance to cook up some endotoxins.

And if it was bacteria and the endotoxins giving your rice that added flavor, you may or may not have any health effects. The common agents are usually already found in your gut, playing the role of the good guy. Depending on concentration, your body may not notice anything... or you might get a nasty case of the shits and/or vomits.

You'll know if it happens. ;) If it gets to be a case of violent explosive reactions coming from both ends, or a serious amount pouring out of one end, check yourself into the local hospital. Dieing because you are pushing all that precious water out one or both ends in force is not a cool way to go.
