Hi, I really jope this one is just a simple answer. My daughter took a video filmmaking course last summer, editing and all, and loved it. We got her a Sony PC110 for Christmas and got a 1394 card to install and Adobe Premiere, and had endless delays in partitioning the hard drive to make a special video editing space, and finally got the card to install and Windows set up the driver Plug and Play, and then the camera died the day we were ready, and spent 3 weeks in the Warranty Hospital. now it's back and Premiere tells us the device control is not available. Can't connect to the capture device.

Device Manager shows the 1394 working properly. Here's the clue I wonder about:

In an Adobe document, I saw, among 1394 troubleshooting, a reference to looking in Device Manager under Imaging Devices, and if the DV Camera stuff in there was for Windows, you're all set with Premiere. Well, there's no Imaging Device category in Device Manager for us. I fear that what happened is this. When I looked at things last night, with the camera freshly returned, I scratched my head and remembered how smoothly Plug and Play detected the card three weeks ago, so I tried first things first -- remove the card driver and let it find itself again. So I looked down the list and saw Imaging Devices and thought -- that's the one, and Removed it. It was only tonight that I realized that the card's listing is under "1394 Bus Controller". And now there's no listing available for Imaging Devices. In Add New Hardware, there's a choice for Imaging Device, but it only lists Kodak. So I'm stuck and puzzled. Was there something there that I really need and don't know what to look for?

I hope it's something really simple like that. Does this ring a bell for anyone?
