I have tried both the motherbaord and cpu boards without luck, so I thought I would try here. I want just got a Athlon 700 with a 900 core and was hopping to run at 1GHz to get the most for RC5. However, I can't even run at 900 because the cache speed is to fast I think. I can't change the speed in the KA7 bios either because the cache chips are by Samsung. Does anyone know if there is going to be a bete bios that supports Samsung or how I might get into windows running at 1ghz?

gimme an email - i think i have a copy of FSB, and the L2 cache utility for windows.....

i'll send them to you after you email me.

You should be able to boot into windows first, lower the cache speed, then up the FSB.

There is a problem with that otherwise I would do that. If I up the FSB, I up my memory bus and my PC100 can't take much over 110.

I don't think you'll ever get anywhere trying to overclock your TBird with FSB manipulation, if I understand your post. You need to go after the pencil trick on the bridges so you can adjust your multiplier. Apologies if I misread your post, but trying to push a Duron/TBird from 100Mhz to anything above 110 Mhz is dicey due to the EV bus. Get after that multiplier.

JimMc - normally, I'd agree with you. But i have heard of many stories with owners of KA7's that thing were wroking quite well. Many got to 115 and 117 mhz FSB. I know of a guy who got to 119. I myself got up to 123 (any higher, and it crashed instantaneously) using FSB and the cache utility - and remember, that this is the slot A, and therefore, no duron's allowed :(, nor pencil tricks.....

[EDIT]have you tried increasing the CAS latency? (was it CAS 2 PC 100?)

What voltage are you trying to run it at?
The 850's and lower are set to run 1.6v, while the 900's and above are 1.8v.

<Edit> Duh, I see he said cache chips making it a SlotA Athlon. /Duh </Edit>

BurntKooshie has the right idea, raise the CAS memory timing and boost the FSB. If that board has precharge increase that too (if it is used).

He needs to change the cache ratio and use a GFD. Even then there is no guarantee that his 700 will reach 1000. I have a slot A Athlon 700.

If he is correct about the 900 core then reaching 1000 will be possible. To use a FSB of 110 he will need some quality RAM.

my point is, lower the RAM timings if possible. keep it at stock. boot into windows. lower the cache multiplier. increase FSB with softFSB ( have the pll's needed for the KA7).

I understand what your saying BK. I running at 953 right now, I did get to 1GHz, however my ram didn't like running at 117MHz. I tried setting the GFD to 7.5 then set the host clock to hstclk-pciclk so I could run at 133 ok, that didn't work at all. Then I tried starting up at 900Mhz and while everything seems fine, windows won't load. It hangs at the splash screen even though my caps lock still works. How odd. Abit needs a bios that will control Samsung cache and thats something else, my cache is 3.6 or 3.8. Is this right? The techsupport wher eI got it from said that there was a problem with Samsung chips but that they were indeed 2.8ns. Any ideas how on true that is?

Good job Andy2. In the latest beta bios for the K7V they have added the ability to modify the cache multiplier, seems the same is true for the KA7.
