I'm gonna get PS2 soon <getting it from EBWORLD> , so this thread is just for my knowledge's benefit.
When I saw DOA2:HARDCORE on my friend's PS2 it looked.. well, not too good to my eyes... however, when I saw the Screenshots @ IGN's review... they were breathtaking... is it just my friend's PS2? Or has other people noticed this?

Could it be that the IGN people have it special somehow? Cuz I used to think that Screenshots don't look as good as 1st hand experience...

Here

Here too

These are some pics I'm talking about, I don't believe they look that good @ my buddy's house.. he's running it via SONY WEGA 20 inch.

I heard some talks about a TRUE SCART and a "FAKE" SCART from SONY... I heard that w/ the TRUE SCART the pictures would look a lot better, could this have something to do w/ it? What is SCART btw? Thanks for the help :)

P.S. if I posted this in the wrong place... please transfer it or tell me where to put it, thanks again! (sorry, I don't spend too much time elsewhere 'cept @ OFF TOPIC here @ anand)

Honestly it doesn't even look as good as the DC version on a VGA box. Hell it doesn't look much better than the DC version on my crappy TV. Those pics look a little too good to be true.

Is it me, or does it really look like the gamma(brightness) is cranked up in those pictures?

I believe SCART has to do with the cables and interface between the image producer(playstation) and the image receiver(TV).

As far as technicalities I am completely ignorant... however, this much is obvious to me... the game didn't look THAT crazy (as far as graphics are concerned) on my buddy's PS2... could something be wrong w/ his connection? Or is it that IGN really did touchup their pictures? <I respect IGN and doubt they'd do that though> :)

P.S. Thanks for the link VI-Edit :)

What sort of connection is your friend running from his playstation to the TV?

I'm sure that you will have some marginal degree of image difference if you use a "better" image interface between the PS and TV. Sort of like going from RCA or Coaxial cable to SVideo cable.

How many different ways can you hook up the playstation to a TV?

Just saw some pictures of the SCART lead so that I got an idea of what it is... when were these implemented on TVs? I don't remember seeing this on the back on my SONY TV... which is like a 27 inch Sony TV from the early 90s...

I know for a fact my Wega doesn't have a SCART connector...

Is S-video comparable?

I'm not sure as to how many different ways you can hook up the PS2... from what I heard a TRUE SCART cable is best...

Viper, your WEGA doesn't have SCART? Aw... I'm sure my TV wouldn't have it then either.. :( it was pretty high end for its time too

I think they might have retouched the aliasing a bit. I have DOA2 for PS2 and it doesn't look as good as those pictures. This is on a 32" Wega XBR400 by the way. Of course, I haven't found anything for any console to look perfect. The XBR likes only the best, and it'll show every flaw there is possible. It still does look good though. :)

another explanation could be that the pictures that you posted were taken from the intro vids, which are very touched up and not rendered in real time, whereas your friend is playing in real time.

most likely they are taken using the component cable that you can get for the PS2, basically the PS2 is progressive scan, so if your just using the normal composite outputs that come with it, they dont do the system justice.

those pics look pretty close to my DOA2. of course, IGN takes craploads of screenshots and picks the absolute best... so take them as you will... PS2 is great.

Is this how the SCART cable would work...

Cord goes from DC to SCART, and from SCART to the RED, WHITE, AND YELLOW cable which would go to the TV?
