I am driving around Indy this afternoon and see a chuck of ice in the road. I can't switch lanes because of a car next to me. I decide to straddle the piece of ice and....It knocked loose the transmission cooler in the front of the car...and i didn't notice. I start driving again 20 minutes later and my car keeps going into neutral for a few seconds between gears. Needless to say...i have a few choice words at this point. I get to where i need to go and look and there is transmission fluid leaking badly. I poor trans fluid in the car before i leave work and go home. Find out that there is only 1 place open around here still that could look at it tonight.

price to tow the car to the repair center = $50
estimated labor to fix the car = $150
estimated parts cost = $150
Adam driving over large chunks of ice at high speeds = priceless......

yeah hopefully you luck out and don't need to have the transmission itself worked on, that could cost you way more.

well, when i put more fluid in to drive home...it made it there and never cut out for good. Therefore i atleast feel good that the tranny isnt hozed. Let's hope for it to be just a leak in the hoze or something.

Please just stop talking about fluids leaking out of tranny hoses. It just sounds so very wrong. Especially when I say it like that.

So, I guess you'd never straddled anything that big before, eh?

That's what she said!!!

I knew you had to be from Indy when I read "Interstate" in the title. I never heard that term used so casually until I moved out here from New Jersey.

$350? You got off easy. You could have really done some serious transmission damage if you kept driving and all the fluid leaked out.

The whole "priceless" thing is old and unoriginal, especially in the manner that you used it. Pls stop.

cost me $650....

They had to give me a new trans cooler, a new trans cooler mount, the fixings, trans fluid flush, and timing belts needed tightened.....sigh

I had the exact same situation only it was a huge piece of 18 wheeler tire. Had to straddle it; made a horrible noise when it passed under my civic but everything was ok (i think).

you should make sure you're not being taken for a ride, i don't see what the timing belt has to do with the tranny.

you could probably do most of the fix yourself, the tranny cooler and fluid lines are probably easy to get to. You'd just pay for parts, which shouldn't be that much.
