The Athlon II X3 425 Rana! Great performance and amazing value considering it is under 80 bucks. I have the processor overclocked on stock voltage and air to 3.25GHZ from 2.7GHZ without issue. Unfortunately the 4th core did not unlock for me but having 3 cores @ 3.25GHZ makes Windows 7 and my games run silky smooth :D

the x3's have always been a great gaming cpu. two threads for the game, one thread for windows. it also frees up budget that can be used on a better graphics card. double win for those who dip in the sweet spot.

No doubt.

They are great processors. Too bad AMD was really sucking when I built my current rig. I would have gone for a 2.6ghz Phenom X4 if it was priced right. The Q8200 came with a ECS G31-T mobo for free, so I bit.

If I was building now, it would be that CPU and a solid board to OC with. 3 cores is the sweet spot.

By the way, have you already sold the 8750?

Sold the 8750 Black a long time ago.

Nice. Just askin. I don't feel like paying $72 on newegg for it. My brother is stuck gaming on a Phenom X3 8450 (2.1ghz) on an AM2 motherboard with ZERO OC features besides multiplier control/voltage. A Phenom X3 @ 2.8-3ghz would be a solid enough performer for a few more years for him.

Have him get a cheap AM3 board and a X3

I've ordered one in a combo.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.315809

For $136 + shipping, I couldn't complain. It isn't going to be my system, but I get to be rid of my last remaining DDR2 sticks. :D I'll see if it unlocks the 4th core.

Edit: Weird. The combo board I ordered is 785G but the link takes to a 770 board.
