My friend just swung by and dropped off some Vietnamese Spring Rolls. Unlike other Spring Rolls these aren't fried, just greens, sprouts, rice noodles, pork and shrimp wrapped in moistened rice paper. Comes with peanut sauce. Mmmmmm mmmmmmm!

So anybody else here enjoy Vietnamese food?

I  pho. Best stuff ever.. then again Viets are very prevalent in my part of the city. There's at least 3 places within 10 min of here. Not to mention Chinese places.. at least 12. :)

Some nationalities seem to fry their spring rolls, which are very different than their egg rolls. (Different stuff inside and the wrap is made with something different) I want to say Thai or Chinese but I'm not sure. Regardless, the waiters at the Pho restaurant I frequent often have to point out that the spring rolls are not fried.

Oh yes, I'm not asian at all, I just find the food incredibly tasty.

personally, I hate the shrimp roll, but I like the spring rolls, they fried it.
I used to work as a busboy in a vietnamese restaurant, uptown manhattan.

I have two friends who are Vietnamese and say they're called spring rolls, not to mention the menus which say so on the half-dozen Vietnamese restaurants I've been to. I'd trust them on this one. I'll bet, based on the location of the restaurant, the name was changed so as not to confuse whitey. :p

The fried rolls are called "Imperial Rolls", "Egg Rolls", "Fried Rolls"... it's pretty non-uniform. I usually ask.

I've seen fried and non-fried spring rolls..sometimes at different restaraunts, and sometimes at the same. Fried spring rolls, as someone mentioned, are generally smaller than egg rolls, are filled differently, and have different wrappings. I've also had them made by vietnamese friends, so I know that they're technically "authentic." The friends referred to them as spring rolls I believe, though they've also made the non-fried variety. I'll ask around and see if there's a correct name for either.

That said, I think I'm the only person in my immediate group of friends that doesn't really like pho. Dunno, just never really enjoyed the noodles, broth, or meat that much. The seasonings make it edible, but it's never my first choice.

However, bubble tea 0wnzz0rz j00!

I used to work in a viet pho shop too, and i always referred to the fried ones as viet egg rolls and the uncooked ones as spring rolls. Totally different things, and completly differnent when compared to chinese eggrolls. Chinese eggrolls are fat while the spring rolls more closely resemble viet egg rolls(smaller, thinner).

Same here. Never cared much for Pho.

There is place in Orange County that has spring rolls with tasty pork meatballs in them. Their verison of the peanut sauce is soo good. Its on Brookhurst and Westminster in Garden Grove I think. Its complex behind a store.

Unless that's "at once" you've failed to impress me. :D

On a different note...anyone else here like Dimsum? Was talking to a Chinese girl for a while, and she introduced me to the stuff. Yum.

I won't go for the truly "authentic" stuff quite yet (read: chicken's feet, etc.), but dayam those sweet pork buns are good.

Another pho lover here. That sauce you put in there is pronounced like a mix between "tung" and "toong." Don't know how to actually spell it in Vietnamese though.

I also like eating rice with fried tofu in tomato sauce - anybody know what I'm talking about?
