I heard at work today the real reason why this will be the last 84 lumber event.

As you may know, Earlier last year, It was announced that this weekends 84 Lumber PGA tour Event will be the last... mentioning only that it was a business decision. Today at work I found out more of the details:

As a way to throw Nemacolon a bone, the PGA offered to move the 84 Lumber Event to June or July, to hopefully make Joe Hardy reconsider his decision to make this the last 84 Lumber Event.

Apparently, Joe has applied for one of the PA slots license, and is pretty much a lock to recieve it, once slots gambling in PA is approved. The PGA will not allow their events to be held on a resort associated with gambling...
Therefore its a them or us proposition... and JOE said...
THEM!

I really enjoyed watching this event live, living only 3 miles from it. Sad to see it end.

Well I can certainly see their point. PGA tries to hold itself to pretty high standards.

I hope we're talking about golf here.

Yep, this isn't the first time the PGA has thrown their weight around to promote their ideals about morality. They did the same in my area a few years back for a different reason.

The PGA threatened to pull the Colonial from Colonial CC because of their history of not allowing non-white members or guests. After much knashing of teeth, they succumbed to the PGA's request and changed their membership policies to keep their PGA tourney.

I believe most, if not all professional sports have an anti gambling policy.

Augusta has a handfull of token minority members just like Colonial. Evidently enough to appease the PGA

Err.... yeah, but it's the same situation except that they exclude women instead of non-whites.

my point is augusta national (the masters tournament) is not run by the PGA, so they can do whatever they want. If PGA controls the masters I bet they already allow women as members.
