I hear when you drink alone, you're an alcoholic

hmm yeah i have a friend that would tell me that all the time. he tried to convice me and everyone that i was a alcoholic because i drink alone. Granted i drink 1-3 beers when i do drink.

That's complete utter bullshit. Don't tell me you've never had a beer after work. I usually like to have a jack and coke once in a while.

Marge: [reading from a pamphlet entitled, "Is Your Spouse a Souse?"] Homey, do you ever drink alone?
Homer: Does the Lord count as a person?
Marge: No.
Homer: Then yes.

come on guys, "drinking alone" in that context doesn't mean having a beer or two, it means getting drunk alone. however, I still don't think this makes you an alcoholic. everyone has bad days where they just feel like getting a little trashed and not talking to anyone...

Yeah, I was going to say that. Getting drunk alone is more like it.

How far in proximity do I have to be from the nearest person to be considered alone? Since I live in NYC, I don't think I nor anyone else that live here could ever be an alcoholic. 😛

Addictions are defined by their consequences.

True, but the problem is that getting drunk alone every night might not have real "consequences" until 10 years later your liver craps itself.

You know what? Things just aren't right when I drink. It's not the real me and this isn't how I want people to see me. I'm not a violent drunk, in fact, I believe I'm more fun when I drink, but I don't want people to think of me like that.

I just poured out my drink; hopefully it'll be my last one.

Having a beer/glass of wine or a cocktail after work by yourself somtimes is no problem, but getting ripped on a regular basis alone is a potential major problem.
