It could be alot of things. One I found interesting is that you can hear carpenter ants sometimes if you had them. But I'd probably put money of rodent infestation.

UPDATE: LOL, i found what it was, it wasnt inside the wall at all. my tv cabinent is right next to the wall and there is a small space between it and the wall. i have a stickypad down there for insects and i snaired a roach in it. the sound was from him trying to free himself from the trap but only making him more stuck. the placing of the map makes it sound like its in the wall, muahahah, now what to do with the roach i captured.
