I'm curious as to what the response would be if NK was succesful and hit a NW city. Obviously China isn't going tolet us come over and play with ground troops and a nuclear strike probably wouldn't happen either. Would China take care of NK?

That's the REPORTED range. That particular missile is an untested upgraded version of a missile that would fall well short of HAWAII. In other words, it's a SCUD on steroids with a nuclear payload. REAL countries use ICBMs for this stuff. That is, to say, orbital missiles. This thing is atmospheric. It has to burn fuel the entire trip. NK's govt is just being PR hounds, as usual.

Even if they DID fire it, and assuming it really does have that range, it'd most likely

A) Go off in their own airspace
B) Miss altogether due to using inertial guidance
or C) Be shot down by our super-secret interceptor aircraft (it's an atmospheric missile)

In addition to

D)Set off an international incident from which NK would NEVER see the light of day again.

Assuming it even works, they have ONE. If they use it, EVERY country in the world will be all over their fvcking nuts. That is, assuming we don't retaliate and turn them into a wisp of dust before the UN conference call is even over. This guy might be nuts, but he's not nuts enough to vaporize himself, or set off a Chinese invasion of his so-called nation (and they WOULD do it, for their own security and to gain favor with the US).

With this president nuclear (or nukyular) retaliation is actually not out of the question. Probably a good thing in this one case since Kim Jong respects that more than diplomacy.

Last I read, NK was "believed capable" of arming a missile rather than actually in possession of one.

I can't think of any US president that would take a nuclear hit and not respond. In the case of a Russian missile you know that responding will set in motion a nice big WWIII, but in the case of some pissant nation like NK, why not? You can screw them up good and take no more than a busted lip over it, compared to the equivalent of putting them through a wood shredder. No doubt at all that the US would respond with a few nukes, for good measure.

AFAIK they are in possesion of a two-stage rocket capable of hitting Hawaii and Alaska. The only question is if they are capable of hitting the NW and attatching the warhead to the rocket.

No. The only way to take them out without starting WWIII is to convince China to do it.

We would not retaliate.
