Which one should I see? I've seen bits and pieces of Dark Knight so I kind of know how it ends but haven't seen it all. I haven't really seen any of Dark Knight Rises.

Which is the better movie?
Do I have to see all of Dark Knight before "Rises"?

Should I skip them both and start watching "Rome" the HBO series instead?

Well I really want to see Dark Knight Rises but don't time have time for both movies tonight. My wife says she hates "these kind" of movies and never wants to watch them. I said the last installments of Batman are not just geeky comic book movies. They are actually really good movies in general. She'd rather watch The Bachelor or pop in The Notebook.

I also have 3/4 episode of Spartacus to watch.

TDK is much better than TDKR, basically every scene with the Joker is cinematic gold, whereas Batman himself and Two-Face are pretty boring. Bane is no Joker replacement imho, and the film itself was a big step down. Rome was great, though Season 1 is really the only one worth watching. Season 2 felt more like a soap opera in comparison. Still good though.

Cliffs :

TDK : Great
TDKR : Decent
Rome Season One : Awesome
Rome Season Two : Decent

All of the above are worth seeing imho.

Thanks guys. I think I'll watch TDK first so I can get the whole flow of the story rather than bits and pieces that I've already seen. It kind of stinks I already known the ending but I want to see The Joker and his insaneness and intensity.

I would recommend seeing both movies if possible but since you are only allotted 2 hours I'd recommend watching Rome even though it took a couple of episodes for it to really grab me.

Both are good, but watch them in order. There is a loose story arc amongst the good guys.

They are both more than 2 hours. 152 and 165 mins respectively,

Well I have roughly 2 hours. I can go longer if I want, I just don't have time for both movies. Sounds like TDK is the winner.

You guys are full of the shit.

TDK = great, TDKR = spectacular.

So much more substance in the latter. I hated the whole last third or so of TDK with Rachel and Harvey and shit.

The trick is to watch the grey, followed by taken and taken 2, followed by Batman Begins

It's the story of Ra's al Ghul and how he came to train batman the greatest crime fighter of history.

the movies are great and definitely worth a watch. the gritty / "realistic" approach breaths new life into the superhero genre. watch them in order because the second part makes many references to the first.

choice between the 3? go with Rome.

TDK > TDKR. if only because of Heath Ledger. You do kinda need to see them in order, though. A lot of the back story in the final one depends on prior knowledge of the first 2.

No, U!

here's the proper order of quality:

Heath Ledgers Joker > BB > TDK > TDKR

Haha, yes. Every scene he was in was superb, he just tore it up. I think your summary there is perfect. They're all watchable and good fun, but Heath brought it up to a level never before seen in comic book movies. TDKR isn't even that bad, it's just not that great compared to BB and TDK.

This. TDK is overly long and over directed. It rambled along at the pace of a snail in some points while trying to weave together it's characters in an unnecessarily complex story arc.

TDKR is much tighter and flows much easier. It's long, but I never sat there and thought "Man, this is long!", which is how I felt when I watched TDK.

Still, I wouldn't see TDKR without seeing TDK.

I feel your pain. Saw TDKR on the day it came out in the theatres. It was awesome. So awesome that my wife fell asleep (she doesn't like action movies and falls asleep to them due to boredom).

As others have said watch TDK then TDKR.
