I haven't played a video game since Starcraft, what should I buy

Starcarft: BroodWar

Other RTS I have enjoyed:

Age of Empires: Age of Kings with Conquerors Expansion
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 with Yuri?s Revenge
Homeworld
Rise of Nations, if you like micro managing your empire
Warcraft III

IMHO, a good RTS has to have a great story board to go with the single player missions.

SW:KOTOR
Rise of Nations

I don't play much on computer, play mostly on Xbox since I only have a laptop.

BTW, Starcraft is the single best RTS game ever. I have played nearly all the others, and nothing compares. More depth and redeeming gameplay. I disliked WCIII only because the races were not as even as in SC, and battlenet is crap now. Too many cheats and kiddies. C&C original was good, Red Alert was ok, and Tib Sun sucked donkey balls. I haven't played Generals yet.

Definitely Warcraft III and/or its expansion. Since you've played starcraft, the adjustment to Warcraft II won't take long. It does have more demanding hardware requirement though, but the graphics are definitely better...with camera angle changing and zooming it's fun. 4 races too...and they got more uniqueness than Starcraft to them. If you get into it...tell me haha...I'm a big fan.

Depends on what type of games you like. I really like American McGee's Alice in Wonderland. It is an older game but the graphics are pretty decent. It is oneplayer and not an online type of game.

Freedom Force seemed a little different than the other stuff out there and is also in the bargin bin at my local stores.

I almost forgot. Quake2 is pretty fun to play.

I'm really not much of a gamer.

I have played Starcraft and got a chance to play C&C: Zero Hour at the Atlanta LAN Party and it rocked. I thought it was really good and they had some really good races. Also if you are good at starcraft, you can do some SERIOUS damage in C&C once you learn all the buildings and weapons.

RTS: I'd look at Rise of Nations or Civ3 and the Conquests expansion if you liked Civ2; C&C Generals is fun too.
FPS: Call of Duty, Battlefield 1942 (multiplayer only) and GTA 3 and 4 (Vice City) are fun.

Beyond that...I'd wait for more opinions.

Brood war of course

best RTS yet.

Brood war is still the deepest game out there. If you think it's not and think it's all just about repetition and who gets more soldiers, you are just ignorant and most likely suck.

What would be a good game for me to play now?

You're a deprived deprived person...

warcraft is a great game but it still pales in comparison to starcraft

I could still play starcraft / Brood war today for 3 hours a day

IMO even a remake of SC that puts the war 3 interface (command queueing, map pinging, etc.) and ladder system into SC would make SC even more popular than WC3 today
