I haven't done any academic writing in a long long time, mostly been doing legal writing. Can you tell me if it is okay to do this in a paper:

and for the remainder of the paper just use XYZ?
(n.b. XYZ and HHH are more or less interchangable in terms of the remainder of the paper)
