I have Windows 2000 on my PC and the other PC has win98 will this work? Can i cross network 2 different OSes?:Q

I have a :Q5-port Linksys hub and three NICs. One goes to my DSL and another in the same PC i was told to connect to the HUB. The other PC is connected to the hub by the third NIC.:Q

Is Sygate Technologies Sygate Home Network TM Gateway Software good networking software?

How fast a transfer from PC to Pc will I be able to get ? Please let me know of any good websites.

Thanks..... :)

this setup can be done but on the win200 box you will need to set up netbeui/netbios from microsoft, since i belive that is the default networking on win95/98 whereas win2000 defaults to tcp/ip networking, ie they are talking two diffrent languages and it is like putting a korean and a frechman in the same room and expecting them to talk to each other, though they do not share a common language.

also win2000 can do internet connection sharing for you, make sure on this adapter you disable file and print services for microsoft networks, you do not want anyone playing with your systems

That sounds good.
But I'm not clear on what you are saying. I understand using same protocols but what about Network wise? How do I setup/run internet and apps on the other PC?

You have to enable TCP/IP on the Win98 computer for ICS to work. As far as getting your internet apps to work on the Win98 computer, just set them up so that they look for a LAN connection. Netscape should work without having to change any settings. For Internet Explorer, set it so that it's set for a direct connetion to the Internet in the Internet Options. If you use AIM, tell it you're on a LAN/direct connection as opposed to being on a modem. It's set up similarly to how you'd set the Internet apps up on your Win2k computer to use your ADSL connection.
