Win9x (ME) has to be the first OS on the primary partition, no matter what you are dual booting it with. Sadly, as far as I am aware, this means that you must start from scratch and install WinME first. :(

make sure you have fat file system first, fat32 is ok too. you can just install winME, it should work fine. I have a win2kas and I just installed winME after I had win2kas installed on my sys. For win98 it is a different story (at least for me) but WinME had no probs being installed after win2k, no conflicts with the NT Boot manager at all.

You can install WinME after Win2K, using the command line setup /ntldr.

win9x/me doesn't have to be on the first partition. It just needs to have the boot partition be fat. Then it will copy a few boot files to it, and install the bulk of the OS wherever you tell it.

I would like to accomplish the same thing. I have win2k currently installed and want to add Win98. Installing win98 into a different OS folder (ie. c:\win98) and modifying the ntldr will accomplish this? How do I modify the ntldr?

chiwawa, scoober,

Look at AndyHui's post. That command will allow you to install Win98 or ME after Win2k and set itup as a dual boot. I would not recommend having both on the same partition though.

Thanks Paulip88, must've skipped over that one.

BUT... should that be run at the command prompt within Win2k or from a floppy boot disk? I would assume floppy, but want to make sure.

Thanks again.

You would have to do floppy or Win98 CD. Win2k/NT will not allow a Win98 installation to start under its protected environment. When booting select startup with CD-ROM support. Don't tell it to go to setup for you, since you want to run that particular command.

Worked great!!!:D

Only one minor glitch... when starting up Internet Explorer, I get an error saying that the Internet Connection Wizard cannot start. That's not a problem though, since the Win98 install is just for RollerCoasterTycoon and Worms Armageddon (don't like to run in Win2k).

Thanks all for the assistance.

How did it turn out for you Chiwawa626?
