Hey guys, sorry if this is a noob question but i'm new to this os...from w2k
It's been months since i've installed xp, but all of a sudden it's making me select my user "lostboy" or "guest"

It never did before, i changed nothing ... how do i get it to load "lostboy" account straight from pushing my power button ON.

Why did it change?

Thanks ... i did a search on log in xp, log on, select account
but didn't turn up anything with a solution ...

Go to your control panel (or click the icon on the start menu) if you have that icon enabled.

Disable the guest account, should be good to go.

Kniteman77.

I believe you missed something.

Go to the Control Panel and double-click on 'User Accounts'

or open run line and type in "control userpasswords2" and uncheck the box that says users must log in. when you click apply, it will then prompt you for what user to log in, and the password.

I already tried disabling the guest account and it still prompted me to select the one user that was available.

so... nweaver...this is what i'm looking for ... i think ... cuz that option is in w2k ... and that's how i did it with w2k ... btw ... how do i get to that option through clicking?

Thanks ... i'm going to try it now!

ctrl-alt-del twice to get a box to type in user name at start up.
Have you done ALL the updates?
One .NET update (I think) creates a ASP.NET account that will cause your symptoms.
After fully updating, the problem goes away.

Yep, remove the ASP.net account from the User Accounts section in the Control Panel. When updating Windows XP, the .NET update puts that account on there. Remove it and you're good to go!!!
