3 miles is nothing, although that weather bites. Might be worth buying a taxi for the ~5 it would cost.

I ride 15 miles/day(and I'm fat, but hopefully not for long).

I forgot to add how stupid I think it is make this trip in that type of weather. Seriously dude, call someone and get a ride, use a taxi, bus etc.
