I want to make an exact copy of my hard drive and don't have access to any of the commercial programs available (Symantec Ghost etc.).

Therefore I wonder if there are any freeware/shareware available online that I can use instead...

Acronis Trueimage has a free 15 day trial. That's what I used recently when moved to a new hard drive.

Even if you used DVD's they are limited to about 4.6GB in storage .. When you run Ghost or Truimage it will tell you how large the Image file will be ... some of these programs let you specify Low, Fast, or High Compression ... resulting image file will vary accordingly .. Low=Biggest File, High=Smallest File, Fast=size between Low & High ... Note: High will take more time to run
