I have to go into work at 6PM today.

Yet another reason why working for the State is superior to all other routes of employment. 😛

Sucks dude. Why do you have to go in?

That's the point. It wastes my whole afternoon and i'm only working 3 hours.

Tomorrow I have to work from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM and then again from 10:00 PM to 12:00 AM. 😕

Yuck. What do you do?

This is my usual summer job (6th year in a row)--working for a city government doing misc. tasks. Right now we're crack sealing all the streets in town, which is basically pouring 300F tar into cracks and then shoveling sand over the tar so that people can drive over it without throwing tar all over their car.

Since I've been doing it for so many years I've pretty much been promoted to a supervisory position, so I have two high school kids working for me and I'm in charge of the sanding, which consists of driving a John Deere payloader (like this) & doing a bunch of shoveling, as well as driving the various city pickups around as necessary.

Oh, and the late-night part is Pesticide application. What that means is I drive a pickup through all streets, alleys, & backways throughout the city spraying pesticide to keep the mosquito numbers down. I had to get ND State Certification to do it, and while it can be pretty boring I rather enjoy it. You can see into everyone's houses when you go through the alleys, which can be entertaining. 😀

Aside from that job I have my training at the PD, which I have to be at a whopping 4 days next week. Summer isn't supposed to be this busy! 😉

Dude, I work 11am-8pm shifts, talk about a wasted day there and then the last 2 days I've worked 3rd shift only to be back to my 11-8 tomorrow.

Uh huh, I have to work 7 AM to 12AM, yes, as in 17 hours for the next few weeks. At least, I will be getting trained for my promotion 😀
