I have to ask... any of you using those $18 ebay copies of BFBC2?

Obviously a gray area... don't want to get into a discussion of the legality of it or whatnot. Just want to know if anyone is currently successfully using one.

Some games they sell are legit- they just have shadier ways of getting the product, whilst not necessarily stealing. Others, not so much, but that is what PayPal (if they don't fuck you over) is for.

Chances are, they were bought on the gray market, which is why they're so cheap. If you have no qualms over that and they work, I see now reason to worry. I am unsure if it is illegal, but I know it is highly frowned upon by a lot of people.

My question is more geared towards finding out if they work, not where how obtained.

If the eBay selling says they are working, and they are not, you can file a claim and get a refund. eBay and PayPal (which are the same company) side with the buying a ton of the time. It usually ends up in buyers getting fucked, but if you're willing to lose (or wait for a while the refund) might as well. Personally, I bought BC2 the day before it was released and think it is worth the $50 I paid.

What I don't get is if they are 'gray market' how is it they come in the original packaging, have a key and yet carry the possibility that since they weren't purchased from an 'authorized' seller your copy might not work and you're SoL.

Oh well, can't hurt to try. $16.56 after Bing, says a 7 day "return" policy. I've spent more money at a restaurants are regretted it later.

It's because of the place the gray copy came from, more specifically which country. Some countries games are really really cheap due to economy and piracy problems. So they are a totally legit copy of the game, but it is suppose to be for that area only.

Pretty much if it is a game that needs to have the CD Key registered/used for online and is from a gray market then sooner or later it is going to get banned. Single player you can get away with it no problem though.

Very true. I figure since I suck at FPS games in general, hopefully the key will last me long enough to get the curiosity out of my system by the time it possibly gets blacklisted if it's not legit. By that point, $16ish is cheaper than some MMO crack subscription.

Interestingly enough, only one person so far from the HardForums link and nobody from Slickdeals has reported issues. Yay for me I guess.

(If you can't tell, I'm freaking bored tonight)

I buy most games 3-6 month after intro on ebay, most are from people who done playing it, they are legit and used, less than 1/2 price. but if you buy like within 2 weeks of intro, they might not be legit. if they are 18 and new, I have my suspicions.

Me three. But like I said, $16 and change is close enough to make it worthwhile.

I bought one, though out of desperation more than anything. From a "good" seller, and $30. No problems so far. I wrote a thread on it somewhere on here. I'm in Japan and tired for a week to get in touch with EA Japan to find out if the Japanese release was in English or not. And they charge $70 for it here.

Yeah, I looked up this option - USA seller selling "foreign" retail copies for a bit more. Yeah, it was the limited edition, yeah it was $30 + shipping. Plus I'd have to wait for the item to ship. At that point, I may as well hop on someone's steam 4-pack deal.

I bought a Russian/English version because I just wanted to play the single player campaign. It installed fine after asking for the CD-key and worked with the disc in the drive but updating broke that and kept asking me to insert the correct disc. I think these are legit games just made for a different market without some features.

I have a friend that sells these. Historically he says he has had problems with Chinese sellers where the keys either get banned on their own or they're just shady and double sell the key. He also resells Polish keys though, which he has never had a problem with, although they will typically resell from $15-30 instead of $10-20. FWIW.
