Obviously a gray area... don't want to get into a discussion of the legality of it or whatnot. Just want to know if anyone is currently successfully using one.
Chances are, they were bought on the gray market, which is why they're so cheap. If you have no qualms over that and they work, I see now reason to worry. I am unsure if it is illegal, but I know it is highly frowned upon by a lot of people.
What I don't get is if they are 'gray market' how is it they come in the original packaging, have a key and yet carry the possibility that since they weren't purchased from an 'authorized' seller your copy might not work and you're SoL.
Very true. I figure since I suck at FPS games in general, hopefully the key will last me long enough to get the curiosity out of my system by the time it possibly gets blacklisted if it's not legit. By that point, $16ish is cheaper than some MMO crack subscription. It's because of the place the gray copy came from, more specifically which country. Some countries games are really really cheap due to economy and piracy problems. So they are a totally legit copy of the game, but it is suppose to be for that area only.
Pretty much if it is a game that needs to have the CD Key registered/used for online and is from a gray market then sooner or later it is going to get banned. Single player you can get away with it no problem though.
I buy most games 3-6 month after intro on ebay, most are from people who done playing it, they are legit and used, less than 1/2 price. but if you buy like within 2 weeks of intro, they might not be legit. if they are 18 and new, I have my suspicions.
I bought one, though out of desperation more than anything. From a "good" seller, and $30. No problems so far. I wrote a thread on it somewhere on here. I'm in Japan and tired for a week to get in touch with EA Japan to find out if the Japanese release was in English or not. And they charge $70 for it here.
