I have this black rock I found on the beach and I'm thinking of selling it on ebay. Maybe it really is a meteorite ...

while you're at it... why don't you sell some buckets of sand... from the surrounding area. perhaps you can make it a package deal. :disgust:

It may be a chunk of tar since right before leaving I found 5 others. I didn't take them though.

It's pretty light, not very dense.

don't think you'll get much on ebay for it if it's tar - unless you can turn it into this

Tar

you'll only get $22 though...maybe try a different girl...that one is straight out of an 80's rock video :disgust:

For sale:

African-American rock.
Is this one of those rare meteorites? Or maybe it's just a rock I found while walking on the beach a couple of weeks ago?

I see a ton of those on the beach. It's nothing special.

Up at my grandparents cottage he found a meteorite in the forrest. It weighs at least 2 or 3 times that of a normal rock of the same size. It looks very metallic. And yes it's already confirmed to be a meteorite by some geologist at a University.

I'd say it's about 18 inches tall and 10-12 inches in diameter...sort of an egg shape. The geoloigist dude said it would've hit within the last few years because it was inside a large crater...the crater wasn't very deep anymore since it was fairly old...but the crater must've been at least 15-20 feet in diameter.

I have a meteroite. About the size of a basketball. One of my dad's students had it crash trough his deck, and he gave it to my dad. It is VERY heavy (but wouldn't you expect a basketball sized rock to be heavy?), and red. Looks almost like alabama red rock, but very porus. Apparently the student was not aware that they're worth a ton of money, otherwise he probably would have kept it.

Woudln't ever sell it though, its sort of a family heirloom now.
