God dammit... I can't even explain how pissed off I am right now.. this all started when I moved down to Phoenix, AZ.. the sun has just been tearing my car apart piece by piece.

2002 dodge stratus 2.7l

before when I lived in Idaho I only had to replace a solenoid under warranty. no biggie.

Here's the list of shit that's gone wrong JUST in this Phoenix summer:

Blower motor resistor - 35 bucks at dealer + my own labor
Thermostat - 230 bucks after new part and labor
Transmission Control Module - 430 bucks after new part and labor

Now guess what? Fucking A/C compressor is going out, sounds like absolute shit every time the A/C compressor turns on.. that's gonna cost another 800 dollars after labor + new parts

Fucking A.. Can't I get a god damn break? I hate the heat sometimes. 🙁🙁

No offense, you buy a half decent car and move to one of the most extreme climates in the world, and you don't like heat.. and you moved to ARIZONA?

Jeeze.

That's not what I was getting at. I moved to Arizona because I like the heat, but my car doesn't. That's why I say "I hate the heat sometimes" because those sometimes are when my car breaks down.

So let me rephrase that. I like the heat, but my car doesn't.. 🙁 I can't get a break and it's not even that hot any more.

Edit: and I know that dodge isn't exactly known for reliability.. but I haven't even reached 60,000 miles yet and this is just god damn ridiculous.

one, you could have replaced the thermostat on your own, that would have saved you 150 minimum. not even 60k and its already 5yrs old? you havent been driving that car too much. suggestion, trade it in, and get a convertable. wont have to deal with ac for the most part.(sarcasm)

arizona isn't the most extreme conditions, it's dry and hot. not a biggie if your car is up to it, a more extreme area would be when its every type of climate you can think of that the computer has to deal with everything, the paint job has to deal with everything and the metal has to deal with extreme differences in heat/cold between seasons.(which it should be) you should check your FSM to see when your regular maintenance should occur, you may need to bump up inspecting your vehicle a little more often though. other than that, it just sounds like you may have some faulty parts or just a easily worn ac compressor.

Thanks man.. I really hope that it's just a few faulty parts because at this rate I'll have new innards for the whole damn thing by summer '08 haha.

It's just the heat tearing it apart... really sucks but oh well, I don't have any plans on leaving Arizona any time soon. I bought the car used with 29,000 miles like 3 years ago or so.. so I've put on like 10,000 miles every year average. Most of those were out here because I go see my girlfriend often, which she's 25 miles away. I just wish I knew more about cars but it's kind of like I don't know the placement of all these parts and pretty much feels virgin just like it did ripping open my first computer--- a bit nerve wrecking.

Well, the thermostat (for example) is pretty easy to replace. There are other parts that you listed that might not be as easy and I don't think anyone here would recommend you do yourself... unless you have some car mechanic friends to help guide you.

I had a 2002 Dodge Stratus and ended up with a 2.4k suspension repair bill.... After that, I traded the car (I wish I did before the bill...) in for my Altima.

I replaced the thermostat in my 2000 Jimmy for $8

edit: However, after looking up your part, it would be a bit more expensive.... at $15. This is why I dont use mechanics unless I absolutey have to. They rip you off because they can.

Yeah.. well I completely understand that before going into each session with the mechanics.. It's just that I don't have the time/effort to be messing around and learning with cars right now.

I'd really like to trade in my car for a nicer one since this thing is giving me such hell, however I don't really have any money to be throwing around since college is 9 grand a semester.

SO i just got back from the stealership... they had to change o rings, compressor, "receiver drier" (whatever that is), liquid lines, and a recharge to the system with an a/c alternator belt..

total was 1130.35.. OUCH 🙁.. that blows.

the drier is a combination refrigerant dessicator and reservoir. If you don't dessicate (remove moisture) the refrigerant you'll have all sorts of problems.

Ah.. thanks for the clarification.. it sounded like he said "Driver" over the phone before.. but yeah.. there were leaks and the compressor was also (as expected) expensive as all hell.

good to know its fixed. hm.....leaks all over...where did you move from?

Bought the car in Idaho Falls (Southeast Idaho) Hot summers, pretty cold winters. But the summers are no where as hot as here in Phoenix, which I firmly believe is the reason that my car is falling apart.

Hopefully this is it for a year or two. I feel like I just bought another car after spending 1800+ in one summer for repairs.
