I have the worst luck with CPU's

Well last week I got the upgrade bug...again. I decided to upgrade my 2500+ to a 2600+. My previous 2500+ I got when they first came out and got a week 10. I could push it up to 2.1ghz, but I really wanted to hit 2.2ghz (3200+). I thought I might try a 2600+ and hope for an unlocked chip.

I ordered one from Newegg and it arrived today. After opening it up I saw that I had in fact gotten an unlocked 2600+ but it was a week 11. Did they even make 2600+'s back in week 11??? Anyway I put it in and fire it up. I crank it up to 3200+ and it boots then blue screens in windows. I decided to up the voltage to 1.75, still no go, then finally to 1.8 it boots but fails prime95 after about 10 mins. So as of now I'm back down to 2.1ghz....same as before.

Oh well, hopefull the burn in myth is true and I'll be able to hit 3200+ eventually

so did you get rid of the 2500+? I guess you got too greedy. what were your stepping for each processor?

there is a place called excaliburpc.com that sells great 2500+ with great steppings, good luck with that.

btw, i do hate amd for locking their chips. they should kick themselves in the ass for that. people are going to fork over the extra to buy an intel just to overclock.

that's nothing...

try going from a 1700+ to a 1700+ to another 1700+ to .....

ok ok...

i switched cpu's about 10/11 times to get to 2.5 ghz 🙂

now i'm trying to find that magic 2.4C that'll do 3.6 but no luck so far...

oh well!

do yah RMA the chips that don't make it to 2.4?

He doesn't have his heat in his sig for nothin' 😉 BTW, some of you are the lottery ticket buyers of the overclocking world, always buying another ticket hoping for the jackpot, gotta love it 🙂

hahah WELL SAID-

good luck with that though LosthiWay

Sorry to hear of your bad luck. Neither my Tbred nor Barton hit 2.2 reliably. I also happened to get the crappiest TwinMos BH5 ram that won't run a tick faster than 200 or lower than SPD timings. In addition, I can't turn on any of the advanced acceleration features in the bios of my IS7. The jury is still out on my 2.6C. I'm @ 3.0 right now, 1.575v (1.53v actual) and stock cooling. I am hoping for 3.2 with a better HSF as I top out @ 70C with my current setup.

I'll give you a tip: Next time just buy the faster processor. Seriously though, you're crazy.

Ummm... where's the logic in that? Intel's multipliers have been locked for years 😕
