I bought the thermalright ultra-120 to OC my E6600 two? years ago. Well, I was dumb and bought the 680i and it seems to short any memory I put into it (everything set to default/stock).

So now, I am looking to get the ASUS P6T deluxe V2 with the i7-920 and OC it as much as possible. I am hoping I can salvage some of the components from my old rig.

The thermalright ultra-120 seems to have a "mounting bracket" for 1366: http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=24667 is that right?

would that be "enough"? I would probably use my old scythe s-flex SFF21E 120mm fans that I had on my heat sink (assuming this heat sink is reusable)... Also, a corsair 620HX power supply should be sufficient power (my vid card is a radeon 4870). Thanks for the help!

oh, and i'm also assuming that the stuff fits into the antec P182, but i've read mixed thoughts off of google :(

The mounting bracket you listed is exactly what you'll need. Everything will work 100%

Consider though upgrading to the Ultra-120 Extreme because it has better thermal performance for newer CPUs that will get much much hotter. It'll work in a P182, some of the E-ATX motherboards might hang pretty far over near the drive bays.

awesome, thanks for the info. i guess i can get the new extreme..

too bad newegg doesn't sell any thermalrights anymore. any site you could recommend?

It looks like the thermalright included fan is the equivalent of the "F" scythe which is 1600rpm, 28db, 63.7CFM (i have the (Scythe S-FLEX SFF21E which is 1200 rpm, 20db, 49CFM). Should I get a second fan that runs at the higher settings? I currently have one fan on my heat sink. Ugh, this is going to end up costing more than I wanted!

Sidewinder Computer Systems is IMO the New Egg of PC cooling product retailers. They have the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme for $50.95 and it comes with the LGA1366 bolt kit for free. Shipping is gonna be like $12 for USPS Priority. If you want UPS they have that option.

Check around at these retailers. They also have a TRUE that comes with a complete set of bolts and brackets for every current socket type. Check the shipping rates as some are expensive compared to others. The Thermalright heat sink does not come with a fan, the pictures you see are promo pics and they sell that fan separately. I thought they had a kit, but all I see is the fan and that fan holder things sold separate.

I think newegg stopped selling them because of people installing them and doing it wrong then RMA back to them. Or they don't get the same overclock as the other guy did on that one forum and they RMA. People, generally speaking, are quite dumb sometimes. Newegg is so forgiving with their RMA system people would probably RMA it for things they should know if they even researched such as..."I had to remove my motherboard to install it! what the hell?". There's a newegg user review of the deactivated TRUE that says "The base is not flat I replaced this thing 2 times!" Well, I have read elsewhere that the base is not flat for some reason and lapping it to flat actually changes the properties of the HSF. You don't have to make it flat is the jist. I don't know the reason or whether it was a line of BS, but someone who thinks lapping the HSF and voiding warranty for a few deg of temp difference probably should be looking into water instead. Then you have ppl RMA because it didn't fit in their case, it didn't come with a fan, they aren't getting sub ambient temps (that can never happen on air cooling). There's even one guy who said the back plate didn't stick to the mobo. It does, but he needs to remove the paper from the double sided tape. Nobody researches I guess.

Here's what I'd do, buy the 1366 bolt kit. Try it. See if the Rev A Ultra-120 (the one you and I have) is enough for you. Don't spend $60 right away. Perhaps get a better & more powerful fan instead and go with that if the fan you have doesn't seem enough. Seriously here's my recommendation to you right now. Go to http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/thlgboreboxb.html and get that LGA1366 bolt through kit for your Ultra-120. Try it out and see what happens. For all we know it might be enough for what you want. It's $8. Then get yourself some new TIM and cleaner. I recommend the ArctiClean Thermal Material Remover & Surface Purifier for the cleaner. It will remove all traces of old TIM from both your heatsink and anything on the CPU and prep it for Heat sink install. For TIM I like the Arctic MX-3. Sidewinder Computers has both in stock or like I said, check the other retailers and see if the shipping costs work out better for you at any of those sites I mentioned.

Try what you have before spending the bux on new stuff.

That's great advice. I would also recommend isopropyl alcohol as the cleaning agent, check out the price at your nearest pharmacist and see if its cheaper than ArtiClean.
